BBC Monitoring has been taking a look at the view from over the Channel of the Supreme Court ruling.

It says Germany's Tagesspiel wrote that Boris Johnson is "known for his flexible concept of truth".

And although it says he has previously misled the nation multiple times without consequences, he might now trip up over a "mortal sin" that exists only in England: "Never lie to the Queen!"

Der Spiegel also has tough words for Mr Johnson, accusing him of being "prepared to ruthlessly violate every rule".

"If the past few weeks have taught us anything, it is that this head of government is capable of any surprise," it says.

The Irish Independent says the PM's "uncomfortable relationship with the truth" presents a huge problem for talks with Irish and EU leaders.

"How on earth can they be expected to take him, or his government, seriously?" the paper asks.

In Italy, La Repubblica says, bluntly: "Brexit has wrecked everything."

It says the Conservative Party is run by "a gang of ultra-nationalists", while the Labour Party is being torn between "neutrality" and Europeanism.

And Il Foglio, also in Italy, was struck by Lady Hale and her spider brooch, praising her for bringing "a torn UK back to normality, sounding a wake-up call to Boris Johnson and his adviser Dominic Cummings, the wizard of Brexit, who has proved to be no genius".

Think Boris has shot himself in the foot with his lying if he wants a deal but then again he doesn't so his lack of telling the truth won't make a difference.

The thing is John the Gina Miller types who have the cash can change things, but as some have agreed above this was politically motivated by the court

Yes,it would be interesting to know how much she paid her lawyer.I just cannot understand why the mumpties on here choose to support big business fat cats who want to protect their interests by staying very close to the EU for their own benefit. The Supreme court was brought about by Blair which replaced the Law Lords.Blair has always had his sights on a top job in Brussels.Say no more.

The cost of access to the courts is an entirely different issue, gm. High level litigation has always been a rich man's game, particularly as Legal Aid provision has been progressively cut by governments if every hue for decades, usually under cover of 'fat cat lawyer' stories of the type that Grist seems to have read and likes to bleat along to.

I have seen nothing to suggest that the Court's decision was politically motivated. BoJo pushed the boundaries of reasonable democratic behaviour and the Court pushed back in a manner that we should all be grateful for.

In truth, the courts can't win. Back in the 80s they were accused by the left of making right wing political decisions when they appeared to extend the law on Breach of the Peace during the Miner's strike and upheld Thatcher's ban on unions at GCHQ. I think political animals simply assume bias when they don't get their way

Our best bet is to get out with a deal that protects us from the ravages of big business fat cats wherever they are

Oh I dont think you understand the law then mate. The law has never had the right to interfere with political decisions (Blair for instance) or even John Majors prorogation but yet this Gina Miller women seems to have done it twice now and with the same supreme court finding in her favour both times.

Political separation from the law courts is now a thing of the past and democracy as we know it is dead and gone.

If you thought that the working classes and common people were under represented in politics now then you better get ready for what is coming next.

The courts have always had the right to 'interfere' in executive actions. Look up Judicial Review.

JR is an important tool that gives 'common people' the ability to challenge executive decisions that affect them.

The decision yesterday certainly pushed the envelope on the type of decisions that can be reviewed, but that is to be expected given BoJo's willingness to behave in such an unreasonable and high handed manner.

Sounds like Boris created a great impression by his conduct in the Brexit negotiations over the previous months then
