It was the two hot summers of '75 and '76 that changed me from bitter to lager. I was so hot after playing cricket, and lager was kept so much colder, that I changed and never went back. I must admit though I drink a lot of cider now. I find 'Strongbow Cloudy Apple' a really refreshing, tasty drink.

I think one of the problems we have is that we have to drink what we are given in that effectively 3 or so conglomerates control global brewing brands. Lager sadly is a victim of this with tepid rubbish like Fosters served at every pub you go in to. By contrast, lager can also be one of the very best drinks imo. A genuine Czech Budvar or having spent several holidays in Bavaria, a Lowenbrau or Hoffbrau take some beating. There are some world class lagers but sadly we seem to get a lot of utter s*it all brewed in burton upon Trent

I think there are certain drinks you find appealing at different times of the year. I like Cider too in the Summer. I like a drop of Rum or Southern Comfort in the cooler months.

Ohh wow the summer of '76 eh, and the shocking water drought!
I remember that mate, and even though I was a little kid at the time (I was 5 then lol), I had to queue with a bucket in the street at the standpipes for water, just like we all had to!!.

But like you say as well, lager for me is best when its served ice cold, and a lot of them in pubs try to do it now on draught and say its super chilled etc.
