There are many out there in all age groups who are politically ignorant, or just too bigoted to listen to well argued opinion. I'd like to see a system that asks a series of questions and tells you which party's manifesto aligns to the majority of your answers. I rarely hear 16yr olds talking about politics but for the older generation and the one before that it takes up much of their time so on balance 18yrs+ for me.

Seriously? It was a long time ago now but I remember being very interested in politics when I was in that age bracket, as were most of my friends. We were also interested in girls, beer, football and the occasional scrap but politics was very much up there as a go to topic of conversation. We couldn't wait to have our universal adult franchise ignored as our dreams of a teenage influence on the political world were mercilessly crushed. Dante and in turn the reverend Cary had it pretty much right:'...... abandon hope....... ' ...... seems quite apt .
