    "a tad superior"
an understatement if ever there was one
One of a handful that voted Labour in the constituency where he lives
What a warrior & champion of the working classes he is
Can you really take this psycho seriously

There is nothing in the Tory manifesto that will do anything to change it.

The only policy is a guarantee of leaving the EU - which will potentially make it worse (according many brexiteers there will be an economic dip on leaving the EU). Bear in mind this dip will be off the back of a major recession in 2008 followed by 10 years of Tory auserity.

The depth of the Brexit dip, length and damage is yet to be discovered - Rees Moggs says it will take 50 years to see the economic benefit of leaving the EU.

I’m always a little sceptical about new ways of defining poverty and about the organisations that make a living out of finding it. That being said, it’s beyond doubt that a lot of people find it hard to make ends meet in this country. I would also agree with you that the Tory manifesto does not offer any quick fixes along the lines of the ‘someone else will pay’ approach of Labour.

To suggest that poverty is the sole feature of the Tories is nonsense, however. When I was at South Grove in the 70s a kid in my class disappeared for several weeks and upon being asked why when he returned he told the teacher that he didn’t have any shoes. That was just one kid, but there were plenty at the school who were clearly from struggling families at a time when we were living the Labour government dream.

I agree with you that Brexit will harm the economy of this country, but we had the argument and Leave won. Labour could have eased the fairly soft May deal through Parliament, but chose to play daft games instead and now you have the harder Johnson approach.

Where we clearly differ is whether Labour’s debt creating and job destroying policies are a sensible response to UK poverty. I don’t whereas you prefer the ‘it won’t happen muttering’ approach.

I'm certain that I do, Raging. The difference is that I tend to make an argument for my positions whereas other seemingly regurgitate whatever their party tells them too, even when it is clearly nonsense.

I'm sorry about the 'mouthpieces of the bourgeois hegemony' comment if that helps. It was the favoured line of the Dave Spart types of the 70s and 80s before the Left came up with 'neoliberal'.

Good grief Kerr. How jumped up to claim you are the only one on this board capable of independent thought. Arrogance beyond belief.

While welcoming Vaterland back you said "The old me would have commented that threads of this type descend to the forensic level of street drinkers arguing over the last can of Special Brew, but I have turned over a new leaf and would now say that I find it interesting and refreshing to see diverse views being debated so enthusiastically."

I read this that you still believe you're intellectually above the arguments put forward by others but are simply humouring us?

    Interested to hear your thoughts?

It would be incredibly arrogant of anyone to make such a claim. Good thing that I didn't. I was merely making the point that I back up my opinions with arguments. Compare that to the response of some to the IFS analysis of Labour's manifesto, which is to parrot McDonnell in simply saying they are wrong and, in some instances, going on about neo-liberals.
