    Moving the ball quicker

I hear Mcpake saying this a lot and we certainly moved it quicker at Alloa.....but....Alloa were fairly open that night and let us play.

Since then Morton, the dabs and ICT have all been pretty successful from stopping us playing and cannae mind if Partick game was pre or post Alloa but they had us sussed after half n hour.

My point is if us playing well depends on the opposition manager being obligingly open it's not gonna happen very often......maybe another reason our "system" worked well v sheep.

Surely it must be pretty obvious to the manager, asst and Dave McKay that playing this way against the vast majority of teams won't work.....why continue with it?

Can I try to answer this? I think it's because there is an element of fear right through our club from the supporters right down to the CEO. We are beating ourselves up with targets, objectives, all sorts of hoops that we have to jump through before we can enjoy ourselves watching our team. For the manager this style is like a security blanket, this is the way good teams play, we want to be a good team so we try to play this way. Fact is we don't have enough players with the skills to play this system and having spent so long trying to play this way an alternative style just isn't getting used. also we may be keeping trying to play this way maybe because we don't practice any other style. It can't be a coincidence that players come to Dens and often play below the standards that they achieved at their previous club.

Quickest way out of this seems to me to be to encourage McPake and his players when they actually do the right thing. They need to drop the security blanket that has turned into a straitjacket and play the game as they see it.

Agree with a lot of that.

Had a wee laugh to myself Saturday, near the end of the game, I was "encouraging" the team to get the ball in the box quicker, they did and was headed clear, I then got a wee bit of abuse from a fan a few rows in front that "See it dosenae ****ing work".....I was thinking about explaining to him well we have done it 3 years your way and it doesnae work when they again got the ball in early and DJ missed his chance.....so a 50% success rate....Lol.

Also it looks like none of the players are enjoying this style of play, it's heads down, dour expressions let's see if this work.....again.

Agree. sure sign that there is something wrong with the relationship between the management and the players.
