... remember that Rovrum away ... sat amongst Rovrum supporters. They couldn't believe how tough we were; accused Notts players of feeding on raw meat! Oh for some of that now ...
I think what made it even sweeter is that they equalised close to the end, adding to the “Let’s go f***ing mental” scenes when Yatesey hooked one in, similar to Platt at the 1990 World Cup against Belgium.
A similar one was at Millwall (the New Den, not the old hellhole) when we went 2-0, only to be pegged back to 2-2. Last minute, who pops up with the winner but Speedy Gonzales himself, Gary Owers - great shot from 20 yards.

Paul Barnes, that takes me back. He of the bionic knee. It's surprising that after starting at Notts he went on to have an almost 20-year career, mostly at league level. At one point early in his Notts days it looked like he would have to retire before he even got going, such was the severity of the knee injury he got.
Incidentally, I remember another striker quite a few years later who broke through from the youth team and played a couple of first team games but then got injured and unfortunately didn't recover sufficiently to play again. He was tiny for a pro-footballer, probably only 5 foot 3ish, but looked a good prospect. Chris Pearson I think his name was, but I might be wrong, it was a long time ago.
Edit: yes, just found his profile on Soccerbase. Apparently he did go on to play briefly for Kettering and Stevenage in the non-league, but presumably the injury never allowed him to fulfil what seemed obvious potential. Slightly taller than I thought according to his records.
