    Humble Pie - Bartley

Really had no faith in Bartley at all, but the past 4 weeks or so he’s been awesome

He has all the attributes to be a good player, he’s not slow he’s strong and brave

Hope he can keep this form up, even his distribution and confidence on the ball seems to have got so much better
Bartley and Ajay have been so much more solid last couple of weeks

I think Gibbs and Fergie are our first choice full backs

Also Livermore has been awesome, much more commanding wish he’d shoot though

    Well happy at the mo

I’m in the same boat baggiesingh buddy. I’ve been very critical of Bartley, but agree that he has shown some bottle and deserved his place. He has proved to be a great defensive header of the ball.
I still have some reservations, particularly over his ‘hospital passes’ out of defence and the constant unnecessary pointing afterwards.
With Hagazi match fit, I think I would choose him over Bartley, but we are fortunate to have such a selection dilemma.

Isn't it strange how players from last season, who were patchy in form, are now playing the best football of their careers...

    Livermore, Bartley, Johnstone, HRK...

Is this purely down to Bilic's man management? Or a change in formation/tactics? Whatever it is, long may it continue...

I would say Bartley has been excellent since and including the Vile playoffs. A totally different player from the one that started last season. I actually think that the guy is justifying his transfer fee and whereas at the beginning of the season I was desperate for Hegazi to be available, I now feel that the Bartley/Ajayi duo is the best one, at least for now. I never thought I would be saying that but I'm really glad for the guy as I hate seeing Albion players whoever they are with the fans against them. The same with HRK. He isn't the greatest footballer and he certainly was not a 15 to 20 goal a season guy but I hated the negative feeling towards him. The Robson-Kanu song that started out as a p*ss take is now sung with genuine acceptance and its great to see the joy on HRK's face after scoring.

I think we have all been surprised by certain changes from players. I have always thought HRK was underrated and comments even now seem to suggest that he's not viewed as a decent footballer but the truth is he's a dream for the likes of Pareira and Sawyers because he moves for a pass. He's always looking for it. I think the system certainly suits Kanu.
Couldnt stand Bartley last season but I wouldn't dream of replacing him at the moment. Livermore has always been good at what he does and what he does works great alongside Sawyers. Happy days.

There have been many players over the years who have been great elsewhere but flopped for us, and, I'm pretty sure vice versa.
Ray Crawford, David Mills, John Deehan, are just 3 who spring to mind. Luke Moore didn't do any good anywhere.
