Would be tempted to play Aperre up front alongside Shankland, bench Clark and play McMullan as well.
We need to cause as much disruption to their backline as possible to prevent them pushing forward early. I don't see Clark as a hard enough worker in the midfield to do fridays job.
Clarks on form and scored again yesterday, would be utter madness to drop him IMO
No pressure on us after the last two as it's on then to reverse the head to head for the season but it's the kind of derby where if they are going to get something it will be this one as we are so far ahead abs on such a good run a slip up is always around the corner
If we are fully focused and match them for desire etc then we will win more often than not as simply have the better team, however derbies are intense all an early red card or something enter way can change everything
It is amusing though to see them back to their usual nonsense after two narrow wins of saying if they turn up they can win and that we are average again (despite looking like one of the better sides at this level over the years along with Hearts and Sevco at the moment), they are totally deeluded, that will never ever change.
I agree that Appere adds a wee bit muscle up front, and that's a good thing to have in a derby match. Although, it would seem really harsh to drop Stanton or Clark. A nice problem for Robbie to solve. Elsewhere, the team looks pretty settled.
Whoever drops out - if anyone - they will no doubt get on the park at some point so they will get their chance.
Tactics for the night? Their strength is in attack with Hemmings & Johnson being capable. Their glaring weakness is a dodgy defence and a fragile mentality.
So, it has to be an attack minded United side for me. Try to get at their defence as often as possible.
It would be a good game for Paul McMullan to show his best form,; getting driving attacking runs, drawing free kicks, getting crosses in and generally causing panic amongst the Dundee rearguard.
But, I'm not writing off the Dee. We will have to be on our toes from the off and work hard to get the upper hand in the match. And the go and win it. But if we dont turn up, or have an 'off day', they could win on the night. No doubt about that.
Wld drop harkes play Apere shanks Clark from the start. Harkes and cammy on bench to change things up if required. Apart from the goal yest I didn’t think harkes played well. Gave to much away, soft in the challenge and to negative at times.
Good idea.
Harkes is an interesting player isn't he? He's doing the right thing ATM; playing in the right league for what seems to be the right club for him just now.
At 24, he's no spring chicken, and in all honesty probably a bit behind where you would like him to be at this stage. But I feel he's met the challenge of this league and learnt well over his time at United; absolutely establishing himself as a 1st team player. When he is on his game, he quite stylish player, good too watch, and can play a killer cross/pass.
But on the negative side, a wee bit inconsistent and can be bullied at times. I really don't know about dropping him for Friday TBH. He does appear to feature when the team play well.
If I were picking the team for Friday, I'd probably start with Appere over Stanton and leave the rest of the starting 11 from sat as was.
