Quite right too. We cannot allow fans to throw "missiles" at players. This is becoming all too common at grounds unfortunately. However if, as reported, Morelos gestured at our fans before the incident, then he should be cited by the SFA for that. If they can do that for Higdon they can do that for Morelos.

Morelos was booked for the gesture I thought, I don't think the SFA would take further action? I would hope not at least.

It's difficult to avoid going into 'Old Firm' mode. I've seen more than a few gestures from opposition teams at Fir Park; nobody demanded bookings - the 'Well fans just hurled abuse! I've also seen opposition players, very near the touchlilne, blasting the ball low and hard into our supporters. that's actually more culpable than a gesture; but I didn't see any bookings.

I can understand why the authorities can't allow players to make gestures but there's little more pathetic in football than fans being 'outraged' a player reacts after being abused all game .

I agree with that and we've seen it for years at Fir Park, particularly in the East Stand when a player who's taken pelters the entire game gives a bit back when they've scored and the fans who'd been dishing out the abuse are up in arms about it. Derek Townsley and Scott McDonald being the prime examples of that. However, I was near that section in the game last month and from what I saw and heard, Morelos wasn't getting any serious flak from any part of the stand so I couldn't understand his ridiculous 'celebration' after he'd scored. I'm in no way excusing the cup throwing incident but Morelos needs to take a good look at himself because ultimately if he doesn't go anywhere near the home support and give the GIRUY gesture then nothing gets thrown.

True but what about the fans in that area who didn't dish out any abuse but were still subjected to his gesture? Not all fans dish out abuse.

The gesture would almost certainly be significantly less offensive than what they were hearing...why would they then get worked about that above anything else?

Morelos was booked and as he was on a yellow card already was subsequently sent off and rightly so. That will be the end of the matter as far as any action against him goes.

As far as the fan that threw the cup goes, he was extremely stupid and can have no complaints about being charged for it. Not even a kid either, this is a 30 year old adult ffs!
