However, I would suggest that James Cryne would be reluctant to get such a consortium together. I maybe wrong but didn't he refuse to take the reigns either before his father was told he was terminally ill or after? I'm sure there was talk of James possibly taking over and he didn't want to. If so why would it change now? On paper this consortium is not doing anything different to what Patrick did towards the latter end of his reign. Maybe James Cryne is in full agreement with the consortium as to how they currently run the club.
This debate hinged around our only link to the past in the form of James Cryne who as Pass says did not want to have owt to do with running the club & has shown no inclination to stick his head above the parapet
To me it's a question of " if you don't recognise the past" [or even the present] you have little or no chance of changing the future
It's my belief that JC will not change his position[or lack of it] so pinning hopes on that scenario is pointless
He's in it for nowt else but money & easy money at that
If his intention was to influence matters he has nailed his colours well & truly to the mast
If that doesn't sit well with some then so be it
    Time will tell
Don't know how the consortium of which he is a member can make life uncomfortable for him. Chinese burn perhaps

I don't think James as yourself and Exile have pointed out would want to take control of the club himself , he's shown very little appetite for it previously as you both state .

I do feel he could form part of a new consortium and hold on to his 20% , a consortium he could sound out and perhaps invite .

Surely as a fan himself the situation currently can't be to his liking .

I could be wrong on this and his business head rather than his supporters heart maybe the stronger , I don't know other than he doesn't miss too many games home and away apparently .

We aren't a club with too many options with regarding the purchase of the club .

We are between a rock and a hard place here , as the club slides towards league one and a difficult period predicted the options are likely to become even less .

It makes sense to keep it as an asset to pass to his family and keeps his son involved. Also ties in with them still owning half the ground

James Cryne will be sat there rubbing his hands together watching his bank balance grow. Money goes to money.

It makes sense for what purpose keeping his son involved?

The Cryne debate flares on here now and again.

What is clear is that none of us know the real account of the period of Dog's takeover or the motives of the various players involved, both then and now. We don't even know why Dog is here, never mind what went on beforehand.

I remain grateful for Patrick Cryne's involvement over the 14 years following administration and do not know the circumstances of James's 20% involvement. I am just grateful that a combination of Barnsley Council and possibly James Cryne have protected the Dog Consortium from acquiring full control of the ground which they said they were aiming to do within six months.

By the way I see we are now "rock bottom".

I believe James Cryne was inspired by Billy Beans moneyball system and set the wheels in motion at oakwell during his father's tenure. A think tha reight in what tha saying Steve. Of course we can only speculate as SB has alluded to in his post. I can't see the scenario the club currently operates at changing anytime soon. JC, Hoss and Dog are all singing from the same hymn sheet

Let's be honest here, the 20% remaining under the Cryne's is essentially a trust fund which will pay out pretty well to the current Cryne generation based upon our model of operating. If that drastically changed and we stopped "making money" then they've got a stake that might be worth something if the club was sold on. If JC wanted to anything by now then he would have. As for the current owners the only thing that will get rid of them is a lack of big transfer sales. That time is probably closer than they think once the current (limited) crop of talent has gone. Regards some sort of supporter group - how does that look and start?

I agree the sooner the money dries up and we're back down to 6000 season ticket holders signing players for £250k from Plymouth, S****horpe, Inverness and Wycombe the better.
