I know this is going to sound very simplistic but why not just protect the people which are most vulnerable because it appears they are the ones most likely to die from the virus. Let the rest of us get on with getting the bug in our own time.

They say for most the bug is very mild. Once we have had it surely we should be immune then and get on with our lives again.

That is very sensible to be fair. It is the most vulnerable who need locking away. We also have to remember only 10% of vulnerable people who get it die as well so even if you were to get it as a vulnerable person there is a good chance you would survive it. In saying that,that is not good news for those and their families who don't admittedly.

Its obvious to me that this is the equivalent of a particularly nasty flu bug that is just going to kill more than the usual flu bug. The govt will know that there are going to be extra deaths and will have a target they are wanting to keep it below. It is the equivalent of a disaster in some way in terms of if you in the wrong place at the wrong time you will suffer . Basically luck/ bad luck in this will play a big part in this.

I also agree with you about supermarkets. This must be one of the main places the bug is going to spread because of people in close proximity, exchange of cash, touching of products etc.

I don't know how practical this is but why not limit the number of people who come in to supermarkets. Maybe give people an allotted time, put disposable gloves on them as they come in and encourage them to check out themselves. Those poor lasses in the tills are right on the firing line. Failing that we will have to have home deliveries of food.

I would also like to take you up on the comment you made about getting the bug and getting on with our lives again. Surely it makes sense for those who have had the bug and are ok again to be encouraged into front line jobs where possible eg check out staff, NHS etc. This also applies to those at home who have had it and are ok now. What I am getting at lets test for people who have had the bug and are now ok and use them as a barrier.

You would think it sensible, it's your own words from very early in the thread yer daft apeth.

You can't post stuff up pointing the finger at young people for having parties, then go for a hike in the countryside.

They'll be fine, you'll be fine.

The issue, I have with it is transport, supermarkets, petrol stations and yesterday it was garden centres.

I agree we have to steer clear of popular tourist sites. I also think that maybe visits to the countryside should be restricted at the weekends when a lot of people are off, I think if you were to go out in the week some of these places would be a lot quieter.

It is to do with using your noggin isnt it? You havre to think will everybody have the same idae as me about going to this place. There are plenty of remote places you can go round here to generally avoid people, Everybody buggereing off to the seaside or snowdonia as though it was a bank holiday weekend is not a good idea. Maybe the govt should give a list of places people should not visit particularly at the weekend.

There has to be a strategy introduced to supermarkets to stop panic buying and mitigate the virus hot spots.
You,ve mentioned time slots already to limit crowds and queuing
I'd also suggest customers can only use self service if there's less people in the store. Keep the vulnerable checkout people away from the front line diverted to Shelf stocking
Close an aisle down when it's being restocked with only two people.
No cash, only cards for most. If some people don't have cards then they could let the supermarket know.
Baskets only, no trollies

There are problems with the above and it's not perfect but control in supermarkets may have to happen

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has warned that "life should not feel normal" in a briefing about the coronavirus, adding: "If it is, you're not doing the right things."

Think that is a good rule to live by

Just going back to social distancing, there will be quite a few people who will not have a clue what 2ms are, sad but true. I think some stuff on TV to demonstrate this would be useful.

It is hardly surprising that posters on here can't agree on the best course of action to combat coronavirus given we cant even agree on who should play left full-back for the Millers.
However, what is really surprising and disappointing is that we have posters who can't understand or comply with the best possible medical advice available. Some of these medical and scientific experts have studied for upwards of 10 years to achieve the level of knowledge they hold.

But of course, we either know better or feel that society's norms don't apply to us.

The 2 metre thing might have flaws according to some.
Eg someone smoking outside. How far away can you smell it?
More than 2 metres i would imagine.

Don't see much evidence of people not complying on here patty. I've been to the doctor's surgery and chemist today and everybody has queued a safe distance away. When I came back I didn't see any gatherings apart from small families with young kids walking together.
