I also think we need to keep both Longstaffs.
I honestly believe that with a good coach they could become very good players. The team isn't going to be transformed overnight and I think local roots will be important. Yeah, I know it's not exactly what the thread is about but that's me answer.

I can just imagine the patter between our present squad wondering how long they have left if/when the Saudi's take over. They'll all be playing blinders in the remaining matches.![]()
I reckon that is why Ritchie has come out and said he'd love to end his career at Pompey, that he has unfinished business there.
Give them a heads up.
Cos if they get promoted, i reckon he'd drop to the chimpo to play for them and he'd do well there.
Pretty sensible posts on this thread so far. If you listen to some of the mackems we’re expecting a star studded galácticos squad ready for next season.
I agree that the starting point is to see what we have and who has the ability (now or in future) to be in the squad we’d like to have. I agree that the only 3 on current ability are Schar, Dubs and Lejeune but there are several that we have who could either be good squad/bench players or who would come on leaps and bounds if they had a bit more quality around them - Almiron, Saint, Shelvey, Dummet, Sean and maybe Matty.
Report in the mag from some financial bod who reckons we could have 150 million transfer kitty straight off without infringing fair play rules.............. (*raises whisky to lips with shaking hand and gulps loudly*).
I can't wait to go into a transfer window actually excited again!😀
We do have to be a LITTLE sensible though...it's going to take time and we can't be replacing the whole squad in one season...
The big stars generally won't be interested yet and to be honest I'd be wary of the commitment of those that would...call me a cynic.
As said the most important signing is the manager. Bringing the right guy in sets the tone and of course better managers attract better players....
Alegri, Poch, Rafa or Nagelsmann would all be good choices.
Again...you have to look at who you would be happy to keep in the squad for next season. For me...
Du
Ffs...I lost the second part!😂
I'll finish tomorrow...maybe...
This is the best way. Keep the three Kev says to build on plus the Saint and the Longstaffs to start with. Bring in four or five top players, not necessarily huge money buys, but shrewd purchases like the Cabayes and Ben Arfas of the past, each window to build on and blend over three seasons and the same to depart obviously.
That way there is continuity and development as well as allowing for the best of the youngsters to prove themselves.
