So vandalism and destruction are ok then?

This happened on our own doorstep two years ago, reported in January and it went virtually unnoticed.....

This is the sort of thing British people should be rioting over. Why does it take something happening on the other side of the Atlantic (which we have next to no influence over) to get people angry and on the streets? This guy in Nottingham was effectively murdered by the state.

No. But you need to be able to distinguish. To me vandalism of statues symbolising slavery is to be applauded tbh. Do you still think it's an equal society while we have statues of slave traders in the streets?

Right. I've answered a few questions for you now Disturbed. Now please answer one for me. Are you a closet racist? This isn't an accusation, just a question. I'm asking because I just think people who continually try to pick (various different) faults in a campaign trying to end racism often are.

Hell yes, when it involves removing a celebration of a mass murderer which is offensive to many of the people who have to view it every day. Why not ? What possible value does it have ? Unless you see him as someone to look up to.

Note: I want to retract this comment here because I realise it's cheeky and not fair. But it is fair to ask most people on this board to read more about 'white privilege' at this time and ask them to consider the part they play in an unfair society > https://www.tolerance.org/magazine/f...ivilege-really

None of us like the idea of being labelled a racist. But by perpetuating age-old institutional racism we often can be.

I believe all lives matter irrespective of skin colour, gender, race or ***ual orientation. I believe in law and order and that everyone should all be treated equal in that law. I am not a fan of the far left or the far right, all I want is to see equality for all.
What I don't like is for people to justify destruction because of their own believes and totally disregard anyone who has a different opinion.
No matter what , it was still an act of destruction and is against the law and these people need to be charged for it. I agree that it should have been removed, see an earlier post, but it isn't up to us to take things into our own hands. This leads to mob rule and lawlessness and then we would be in a world of deep ****.
I hope that answers your question

Those in power will be happy to see this remain a black vs white issue and this is going to be a massive waste of an opportunity. Basically we're all n-words to those at the top and they'll let us have equality all right, come the day when we're all treated like ****.

Thanks for clarifying. Whether those people are charged for what they did to the statue I guess we'll see in the coming week/s. But the statue itself is a good example of the inherent racism in our society that we need to change. And to be fair a lot of the vandalism in the US has been targeted at corporations with guilty histories too.

I think saying "let's just raze Bristol to the ground" is very dramatic and a bit silly. Think of it this way, Jimmy Savile raised millions for charity but his statue was quite rightly removed, do you agree?

UTM - You make some good points. I'd not heard of Errol Graham before your previous post either. Thanks for the link.
