I’m amazed how many people have played hockey!

Always fancied playing Polo as can ride a horse but didn’t because I always thought there was a lot to learn. Much later I learned from a good player that it’s the horses that know how to play the game as they know where to run etc

Played football against Gary Hackett but he never stood out as being special in the day.

Did Ju-Jitsu for best part of 20 years and instructed etc so decided in lockdown to start again.

    Interesting thread.
For years I’ve always said I wished I could have played more Hockey as I loved it at Secondary school when we occasionally had it in PE.

Our school PE curriculum was often decided by whatever the PE teachers played themselves. We were renowned for Rugby and Football but particularly Rugby.

Personally it was football or nothing for me. We did have one PE teacher who was known for playing nothing but Cricket, the nearest we got was being put into teams of three (batsman, bowler and fielder) then using a traffic cone as wickets on a Redgrar pitch!
Sadly, the teacher left so that’s the only Cricket we ever played in Secondary school, a real shame as I regret not trying it out again although at the time I wasn’t too fussed. My Dad loves his Cricket as he played it during the Football close season to relax from the slog of a semi-pro football season. It’s something I wished I could have done, as a lad I’d go with him and his team all over the Black Country on hot summer afternoons.

Did you go to King Edwards in Stourbridge then Minn?

Renowned for their rugby between the 50’s and late 80’s.

Socially distanced Ju-Jitsu? Are you just going through moves, shadowing or doing associated fitness routines?

....... or did you mean you'll be taking it up again once lockdown is over? Sorry about the follow up post but for some reason our much vaunted 'upgraded' site doesn't allow me to edit posts via my mobile phone.

In the sixties, in our area, the grammar schools played rugby and the secondary modern schools played football. When I passed the 11+ the one that thing that I was going to miss was the fact that the school didn't play football. Having said this, I really got into rugby and ended up loving the game and got into our 1st XV. Whenever we didn't have a rugby match or it was in the morning I would play for the local youth football team in the afternoon. Cricket was the other love of my life. Having trained as a PE teacher I have had the opportunity of trying most sports but to be honest I suppose I have been a bit boring and stuck to the three major sports of football, rugby and cricket. I can't really say that there is any sport that I wish that I had played more of.
