It's been good to see threads like this being allowed to run during lockdown and it's good for everyone to let off a bit of steam.

Just wanted to add a couple of things.
First off, the statues thing is a bit of a red herring in all this because the BLM marchers/ demonstrators are not that bothered about statues. What they want is equality in the (English) system. They don't want positive discrimination they just want to be treated equally. The positive discrimination in a kind of misplaced stupid white guilt trip.

The demonstrations in America and here have been attended by a lot of ordinary white people too who can see the inequality that black people have to put up with. But as always in these things a protest has been infiltrated by anarchists and we shouldn't let the stuff that the anarchists are doing detract from the message.

Same with the looting in the US, the vast majority of demonstrations were peaceful and both black and white marching together.

Reference Arabdownsouth, I agree with his comments about England. Growing up in Scotland I never saw any real problems, moved to England, whole different ball game.
It's a very racist country.

The Met police in London was and is well known for having a lot of racist officers. A hell of a lot of people have died in police custody but not one officer has been convicted since 1969.To the guys asking why there's BLM marches in England after George Floyd was killed the answer is that black guys have died at the hands of the police in England too.

Luckily Scottish people are mostly open and welcoming and Scottish institutions aren't as badly affected by racism as what you find in England. We have a different problem.
