You clearly don’t know the Bible very well. It’s a Jesus quote you’re trying to recall, when he said if someone hits you on the cheek, you should give him the chance to hit you on the other cheek (“turn the other cheek”). He also said if someone takes your coat, give him your shirt too, and if someone makes you walk a mile, walk a second mile. All rather left wing. And in contrast with the old law (from the Old Testament) which said “an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth” which is often misunderstood - it was a limit on revenge, not a justification for revenge.
Here endeth the sermon.

I don't think he should have got sacked I'll be honest. I don't agree with what he did but he did it on his own time and didn't break any laws. Not a nice person maybe but deserving of the sack I'm not so sure. As for Jenrick it makes me laugh people are shocked by this happening. The tories have and always will look after the rich and their mates, it's ****ing bewildering anyone thinks they might have done otherwise!
Agreed. Personally, we started our lockdown more than a week before it was officially announced. Makes you wonder how many lives would have been saved if people had used a bit more common sense as well.

Anytrode, wasn't so-Long Bailey supposed to be the 'leader in waiting'. Not anymore it seems.
Counter question, do you think Cambridge Professor Priyamvada Gopal should be fired for posting a tweet stating "White Lives don't Matter"?
To all those that think he should be fired and she shouldn't, do you agree that a person's worth should be based upon their inherent characteristics?
I think this whole sorry saga will be a great recruiting tool for actual white supremacists.
Something to think about: The population is made up of four types of people: A small number hunt witches. A large number go along with the hunt. A larger number are silent. A tiny number oppose it. The final group--as if by magic--become the witches.
Oh and i don't think either should have been fired.
I think some people saying "All/White Lives Matter" aren't necessarily racist, they just don't understand the point in Black Lives Matter and feel upset that another group is being "singled out for attention"
It's like being upset seeing someone in the street is trying to raise money for breast cancer awareness and arguing "what about throat cancer?"
Sacking, threatening, attacking or or legally/forcibly silencing people who express opinions is never going to make that opinion go away or make the world a safer or nicer place. In fact it gradually achieves the opposite effect. Many people develop or are attracted to extreme political or religious views precisely because they feel unheard or powerless within the mainstream discourse, and the more the parameters of that mainstream discourse become squeezed, the greater that feeling of alienation and anger becomes, and the more people begin feel it, which is a dangerous situation to ferment.
If we want to create a genuinely more liberal, tolerant, understanding and mentally healthier society we have to accept (and cope with the fact) that some people will say things we don't like, or even which we find abhorrent, but as long as those views can be expressed and a conversation can take place, those views can change.
In the words of Del & Rodney from Only Fools & Horses:
"I've never been so offended!"
"Really? Well come over here and let me have a try!"![]()
