In the interview, he’d actually moved on from talking about TW and was by that point talking about the managerial appointment in general. We are where we are now - we can all quote this stat and that stat but the bottom line is that some supporters are now entrenched in their respective positions over who should have been manager and that is not going to change. Not yet anyway and on the Mackay side, those of us who wanted him feel he wasn’t appointed due to reasons other than footballing ability. GB and others were proven to be correct about the Snake so I would respect their opinions but in this case I hope they (and myself) are proven wrong. And I really mean that - I would take no great pleasure in having to say ‘I told you so’ in times ahead. I want Micky to prove me wrong.
    As we all do, hopefully.

I'm more than happy with Mellon. He was my preferred choice once it was whittled down to the three of them. I've researched enough about him to think he is the perfect fit for our club.
I would've also taken Mackay. I'm not sure he was the prefect fit. He comes across as a bit of a billy big baws and I don't think he'd have been here with Dundee Utds best interests at heart, but I'd have still been happy with his appointment.

Time to move on (again). What's happened has happened. We should be looking forward to the next chapter!

I'm still of the opinion that Asghar only interviewed Mackay because he's had such a big involvement in Project Brave and the Performance Schools (of which we have just achieved Elite status and also opened up a 2nd P.School in Baldragon). If he completely rubbered Mackay's CV then he is burning bridges with someone who is literally in charge of the thing we have highlighted as the pillars that the future of our club is going to be built on (The Academy).

I don't think he was ever in with a shout. Asghar knows how much of a community club we are and whether some people like it or not, Mackay comes with baggage that lots of fans wouldnt have ignored. I reckon he interviewed him out of pure politeness.

But, I could be wrong, this is just my guess.

I was in the Tommy Wright camp, however you know what having read and learned a bit about Micky I think this is a better and potentially more interesting appointment. Away from all the usual suspects and I also think we have ended up with a better manager than Neilson.

I am hopeful, he certainly has my support.

Welcome to the club Micky and Arabest to you.

Just what exactly are Mackays credentials? A promotion to the Premiership with an overspending Cardiff team 8 years ago? He spunked £50m to try & keep them up. He broke his club record fee to sign a player for £12m who flopped and was released after six months? He was sacked and moved to Wigan where he won five games out of a possible twenty five and relegated them two years after being in The Premiership.

There's pros and cons for both candidates, but I'm not sure the clamour for Malky is justified tbh.

And I can't see any interview with Asghar where, in relation to Mackay, he states he wants the candidate to be right for the fans? It was th Tommy Wright interview where he mentioned this.
100% agree with this post. I'll say again, there was absolutely no guarantee of success with Malky Mackay, none! There is never any guarantee when appointing a new manager, so I much prefer we appoint a new manager with a track record of success( which some people choose to ignore) and an untarnished image that does not drag the club into the mire. Since when does Malky Mackay's future matter more than Dundee United anyway? It doesn't to me. Its not like he'll be needing to visit the food bank anytime soon either. As the poster above said, Mackay spunked money to get success, that's not a feature of Scottish football. Absolutely behind Micky Mellon’s tangerine army! FTD & **** Hearts!

Just to mention after reading his piece on BBC Scotland Sport y'day TW was never a contender, a lot of keyboard space & debate was wasted.
    - he had a restriction of trade 'arrangement' of sorts with the St J chairman
    - he was indeed interviewed by NI for the job but he (& Robinson) both knew it was Baraclough's job as he was already doing it as it were
    - we (DUFC) never spoke to him at all & he doesn't even know if we spoke to his agent
    - he's currently tucked up at home in Ballyclare with his pipe & slippers

BUT, despite all that he appears to be itching for another club in Scotland, he loves the scene here, so look out for him filling the first sacking vacancy from November-ish onwards which is when he's 'allowed'. SB just did not want him to go charging into the first managerial vacancy that arose.

Wish he'd written the piece earlier, could have saved me a fiver!

Malky was my choice as soon as I was aware he was in the running. That said mickey has been appointed the manager of our club and I will back him 110%. It’s a new start, new season. We’re back in premiership 🤞. Next some new signings and some positivity 👍

In the current climate new signings will be a difficult decision.
The requirements will be different depending on the outcome of arbitration.
And how much budget he has.
Positivity is hard for me. Staying in the Championship would be bad enough but having to listen to than odious creature Budge crowing would be hard to take.

Welcome to Tannadice Micky. Really happy with this appointment. All reports in the media say he's a great man-manager and surely this is the kind of management that will get the best out of our young players, of which we have a good few with lots of potential.
If he can get Appere, Smith, Sporle, Robson, Harkes, Glass, Chalmers, Freeman and Siegrist playing how e know they can, it's going to be exciting times for us Arabs.

Yes, the community club, that protected a ***ual predator, who’s fans worship a rapist, who’s management tried to defend a player, guilty of biting another, and I could go on. Unfortunately for you boys, a few free lunches doesn’t make up for that.
