Thread: Reality check.

    Reality check.

Who expected us, at the start of the season, to make the play offs? Not many I'm pretty sure.
This squad has over achieved and should be praised for their achievements not vilified.
The manager should be retained and the scouts activated as soon as we know our fate. We still have a chance of promotion.
I get the impression many posters on here are happier when things go wrong as it gives them a chance to sound off.

This is actually very true Chris.....I was expecting mid -table or something around that.....
And of course, people are sometimes never happy anyway, not matter what the results......I wasn't to bothered about football in the last number of years but would always keep an eye open for Albion results...but that would be about it.
Since Covid-19 came along....it has brought new focus into my life (as it is meant too) but all to many people collapse back into old ways pretty quickly.....
I think the team has done well......

You still drunk from last night Chris!!! Throwing this away against rubbish teams with gutless displays is about as worse as it gets! I blame Bilic for awful selections - Philips - Robinson - Sawyers - Kanu and Austin.

Don’t mind losing - it’s the manner of it!!!! So banish the cart horses against QPR and play Tolloch - give the kid ago!! Not a great fan of Harper but play him too and drop Sawyers!

Huddersfield had young kids - desire - intensity and wanting it. That’s all any supporter could ask for regardless of the result!

Let me know when your sober!!!

I agree, the fault lies not with Bilic but with the people who try to run the club on the cheap. We have been at the top for most of the season without a good striker. Pep Guardiola would struggle at our club. Peace and now Hoo Pong In Karsy have always underfunded whoever is the manager so they can blame him when we fall short.
If we get rid of Slav and i sincerely hope we don't, who else do you think will want to work for an owner who isn't bothered about football?
What manager would be willing to risk his reputation?
I tell you what would happen, we would scour the markets for six months pretending we are after a top name, and then give the job to Barry or Brunt.

Then Bilić should start playing Tolloch and give up on those who are constantly underperforming! You have to admit Des when Philips has been absolute dross for weeks - wasn’t the brightest thing starting him yesterday was it?

Do any of us really think Tolloch would do any worse than Kanu or Austin who are rotated like a yo yo! Sawyers too - he’s not performing and everyone can see that apart from Bilic so drop him!

I agree with the bigger picture - no money - cheap cheap cheap but hold on - you then cast yours eyes to Brentford and Sheffield Utd! What have they spent? How have these teams managed so well with fantastic team spirit and good football? Needs to be questioned!

Interesting points - when Villa went down they immediately tried to buy their way back with big money signings like Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodija. It nearly worked in the 2nd season by which time the spending policy had changed due to FFP restrictions and lower parachute payments/TV money - the addition of John Terry (albeit on massive wages) got us over 20 clean sheets.

For all that's been said about our summer spending of £140M - we had let 13 players go, and most of the money spent went on Mings, Wesley & Targett. The other acquisitions averaged I think £10M or possibly a little less which ain't much in the PL whereas John McGinn cost us £5M! Our recruitment policy has failed us, IMO the only way to go up and stay up without taking a massive risk with big spending is to build a squad over 3 to 4 years that doesn't change too much & with a blend of youth + experienced heads with an established footballing philosophy. To do so means keeping faith with the same manager.

You will always question some of the decisions made by any manager. I think Bilic has done very well with the available squad and at times has made inspired subs. I didn't like Phillips playing last night but an important game like that is probably not the time to be introducing a youngster. We still have plenty to play for and I'm disappointed nut not disheartened. Leeds threw it away last season and came back stronger this year. A couple of good additions and we have a squad which can definitely get promoted next season if we don't make it through the playoffs.

But we have thrown it away this year bar a miracle ! You say a couple of good additions? Did you not mean several additions? Johnstone is very poor - Gibbs will need replacing - Sawyers is not good enough - we have no strikers and will our three best players be here - Krov - Grady and Periera? I doubt it!

So if Brentford don’t lose today and can’t see it - why would you not play Tolloch against QPR with nothing to play for? He could be no worse than Kanu or Austin! Likewise Harper would be no worse than Sawyers!

Please God - don’t let Robinson or Phillips anywhere near the play off side. How many games does Bilic need to be convinced they are not good enough - 5 - 10 or 20?

PS - Brunt must be thinking how he can’t can’t get into this team!

As for next season, whichever league we are in, the lad Callum Morton should be given a chance, he did so well in Northamptonshire promotion.
