I thought it was because we had a build up of fixtures developing with the FA Trophy?

I would have preferred to have seen Crawford stay, our only CM who was good around the box, but will have to see who they lined up.

Not suprised to see Doyle offered a new contract but his playtime could be Ardlys hill to die on.

If we can keep everyone we have offered a contract to it will be a very high quality squad (apart from centre mid)

The season starts in October so it's two games a week for a good chunk of the season and Doyle and JOB can't do it.
Good point about the relentless nature of the season - two good players needed for every position.

I’d be concerned if Doyle is being seen as first choice in a 4-4-2 - everyone knows we need more energy in the centre of the park. Maybe he’ll become player-coach and be there to guide the younger ones.

Shame it didn’t work out for Crawford, but I’m not too surprised he’s not been offered a new contract. Ditto Booty (too much time on the treatment table).

By my reckoning, Enzio is currently our longest-serving player. Crazy.

I'm sure you'll be in the majority, but I'm not. I'm thinking of the Ravenhill / Bishop midfield we had in the Munto season. Neither could be described as creative or great passers of the ball, but they were bloody brilliant at stopping the opposition playing. They just had to win the ball and give it to Davies and Westcarr to do the creative bit, and Hughesy and Rodgers to finish it off. If we keep them I think we've got a National League version of Davies and Westcarr in Roberts and Enzio, and at this level Wootton and Dennis / Thomas could impersonate Hughesy and Rodgers, but who do we have to win the ball? Far too often in recent seasons opposing midfielders have had the time and space to take a touch, look up and pick a pass. If we can't replace Rose with the same or better next season I think we'll struggle to challenge at the top.

People assuming we let Rose go. He is going on his own accord.

Put it this way we shouldnt be a non league club and take that as a starting point.
Well that didn't answer the question.

    We shouldn't but we are.

Even though neither will be world beaters, I think Bird and Tom Crawford will forge a career at this level or higher. I will keep an eye out where both of them play next season.
Hey Lex Luger, not everything is about you. Multiple people (didn't think you were one of them) were very keen at a couple of points last season including getting him back from Boston and in the side.

We didn't need him, we had 3 maybe 4 clearly better in his position. That's just a fact.

That's what I hinted at earlier in the thread:

Interesting, am intrigued to see where he goes.

I was expecting him to boss the midfield at NL level, and bar the odd couple of games has never come close to doing that.

I only ever said he was worth keeping on as a squad player, and I still think the same. He was young, improving, and highly likely to be on a low wage. We'll see how his career goes from here to see whether your sarcastic references are verified or not.

Quite happy with the decisions made by Ardley as long as the gaps are filled by good signings.

Why all this talk that Roberts won't be here next season?
Dennis didn’t seem to be flavour of the month at the start of the season; it looks to me as if he changed Ardley’s mind.

Roberts is unlikely to be with us in the long term, so I’m glad we want to keep Osborne, who is a rawer player but with real potential. Of course, it’s possible that Roberts may power us up the divisions Ã* la Masson, but that seems even more unusual these days.
