There were three foreign players at Notts when I first started going games (Raddy, Lahtinen and Chiedozie plus Harkouk who qualified to play for Algeria), it was three years before we signed a new one who wasn't Irish, so the first new foreign player I ever saw was Declan Edge. We didn't sign another one until Frank Farnina in 1992. As far as non-English speaking nations go, there were none I can think of between Lahtinen and Dijkstra, a whole decade.

The excitement when Harkouk was in the Mexico 86 Panini album for me was unsurpassed and when I actually got him in a packet I was a little over whelmed. Still got the album somewhere.

Dean Thomas felt like an exotic signing at the time because he'd played in Germany.

We had a player in the 50s called Ted Robledo who signed from a club in Chile.
