We all know Notts like to go the journeyman route something ive banged on about since our league one days.

I got told they are not good enough probably is true for some but here we are two leagues lower playing misfits kind of proves my point.

You are better off wages wise and ability wise there isnt much difference I suspect with Covid lots of teams will change their approach.

There's no time to "give your own grown talent a chance" when you're fighting for promotion or fighting against relegation just because they're local lads but Osbourne was given a fair few opportunites, some of them he took and some he didn't, unfortunately for him, when Roberts came into the side he was very obviously a class above and we won the last 4 games of the season without him in the squad, should Ardley have played him then?

It's no wonder we've not seen you on the board for a while whilst things have been going alright but it's good to see you've returned for the opportunity to moan about something

What are you basing that on? We've thrown in plenty of youngsters that looked completely out of their depth that I can think of over the years, Greg Tempest, Curtis Thompson (when we played him at right back originally), Colby Bishop, Montel Gibson, Romello Nangle, Malachi Lavelle-Moore, Tyrell Waite, Kyle Dixon, Declan Dunn.

You may think a couple of those are bad examples as they've now gone on to better things but for Bishop for example it took 3 or 4 years to get to Accrington, likewise for Gibson with his move to Grimsby and Curtis was in and around our first team for 5 years before leaving.

At this level you can't afford to hang around waiting for players to develop, you have to pick them up on their rise back into the leagues and the truly gifted players that actually come through will probably get poached by Premierleague clubs before most fans have even heard of them like Kion Etete, Dongda He and Jack Bearne. But even with those 3, those Premierleague teams are happy and able to keep them in their youth teams developing, we don't have that luxury so if they're not good enough or ready yet you have to act and bring someone in who is capable.

    Bang on Freeman !

Football has changed since those halcyon days of Johnson, Draper, Yates etc. All the talent is hoovered up by the bigger clubs for a pittance. In effect our youth system has been working as a production line for the vultures rather than us.

IMO the Football Radar 'Money Ball' approach - so effective for Brentford and Brighton - is the way forward for a club like us. We pick up Premier League discards, others from higher leagues and overseas, using football analytics. Cal Roberts being a prime example of this gameplan in action.

So based on your logic we may as well not bother trying to develop our own young players. In fact we may as well get rid of the academy, as in your eyes it serves no purpose..

I’m basing it on the fact we have done nothing but sign crap journeymen and are now two leagues lower so it clearly hasn’t worked signing meal ticket players I think that is obvious.

You have listed a few players but how many starts did they get other than Thompson not many more than 15 between them is that really giving them a chance ?

Your point of Colby Bishop shows you give players a chance they may just come good whilst we spend money on the likes of Enoch when his history shows you he isn’t any good he had a club a year which is a sign.

Osbourne is easily good enough to be a squad player for us but he won’t do for Ardley no he’d rather sign a player on the slide like Buckley.

The money we made from Dongda He, Byrnes (probably spelt his name wrong but went to Liverpool) and Etote probably paid for a single season of the academy, what's the point?

Reading what the Bradford fans were saying, he is more of a creative player. Takes the ball off of the defense and pings passes about. They mentioned that he would only be effective with a ball winner next to him. Maybe that's rubbish...looking forward to finding out!

I wonder if there was any truth in the Eric Andersson rumour. He is a ball winner.

More likely used to pay the debts accrued by signing journeymen players on ridiculous contracts ...
