How can the left be so convinced that they know better.?

The left are like the followers of a cult. Hang on, you are.
Quick, check the floor Rog. That screw has finally fallen out.

Your "outrage" shows you are obviously a very principled man Roger, so I was a little surprised that you haven't started a topic about the latest in a long list of U-turns in government policy regarding Covid-19. I would consider many people losing their lives unnecessarily through Tory incompetence a far bigger outrage than a patriotic song not being sung.

You seem strangely quiet when the 'home team' are at fault!

You n me both, Dave. Some of the sad punters on here simply do not realise the incredible value of the Beeb. And because many of them have only ventured outside the UK for the occasional holiday, they do not appreciate the respect worldwide for the BBC as an institution. Yes, it has faults and amongst them for me is a quite ridiculous obsession with royalty and cooking. However, as with the main team I support, I long ago learned to take the rough with the smooth.

Yes sid, the BBC does provide some good things. That doesnt include political coverage or quality programme production. Its produces cheap trash, like the sewing bee, on prime time. Which is ok for the poor, they dont know any better. They will be Labour card holders too.

As for the Royal family, they make far more money for this country than they take out. Every family has disfunctional members, in fact, every member of every family is disfunctional, except for a very small minority.

    I know, ive studied psychiatry.

Sandringham is up the road from me, its a wondrous place. Im sure a labour government would turn it into a hostel for illegal immigrants, a brothel, a drugs den, and you wont object to that. It will get trashed, faecal stuff over the walls etc.

We all need standards, the left have none, and glory in it.

Can I ask what is wrong with the Sewing Bee? I'm not a woman and I'm not particularly poor, but I watch it out of appreciation for the creativity and talent of a diverse group of people. Thankfully sewing is having a revival amongst young people now because there was a time that it was in danger of dying out in our throw away culture.

The same could be said for cooking before the BBC inspired a generation of youth to get in the kitchen.

I think the diversity and quality on the BBC is something to be proud of. Don't take it for granted. I lived abroad for 7 years and it made me realise very quickly just how fortunate we are.

What a ridiculous rant, Maxwell. Still you have studied Psychiatry so that makes it all right.
I simply said that the BBC had an obsession with royalty. There was no hint that they or I want rid and certainly it's not a part of Labour Party policy.
Who are 'the poor' you refer to and from which century did you spring?

I define the poor as people who cant manage their own lives without bothering someone else, even though society provides sufficiently. Another part of the "poor" is that they never learn and just lurch from one crisis to another.

It does smack of a deeper problem that Labour thinks chucking money at will solve, when it just makes things worse. Giving more money to drug addicts or single mothers wont work.

Labour would abolish the royals, if it could get away with it. I suppose what im saying is as ridiculous as before. If we followed your leftie way, all of society would end, as it always has. Societal suicide.

    Keep blaming the Tories chuck.

Yeah I think I’d have agreed with you a few years ago when my kids were always on CBeebies/CBBC. Now? I have to say I don’t watch or listen to anything much at all, certainly not the news which despite what the idiots say bends over backwards to placate the ruling party. And I don’t believe the ‘well if you’re upsetting both sides you must be doing something right’ horsesh!t either.

Local radio sport is good, and Notts would miss the coverage, but generally I think I’d miss the BBC less now than at any time before. Sadly enough.

He's from Cambridge, so I'd guess late 19th.

I think that sentence is one of the genuinely saddest most non-empathetic things i've ever read on here. I really hope it's part of your WUM schtick.

In the rest of the world there are these things called dictionaries. They're useful because when we exchange words to communicate it helps us to know what the other person is on about. Do you still have access to them in your land of privileged hate?

The dictionary definition of poor (which most people use) is actually:

    Poor
    adjective
Lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.
