Actually Tipps, in the mid-sixties, the period I was referring to, the first plastic coated balls were being used.

Yes, you're right Leics. I remember those plastic coated balls coming in. Prior to that, you didn't dare to head the ball when it was wet as you'd have suffered from concussion all weekend!
Could it be that the modern balls facilitate much more shot ‘movement’ ? A spreadeagled parry is maybe a safer save option against a moving/dipping ball ?
Notwithstanding, I was disappointed not to see him attempt a last second dive.
Interesting that Bartley having found himself unmarked to score, responded giving Abraham the same courtesy !
In terms of replacing Johnno with Button, I am happy to leave that to the keeper coaches and Slaven based upon form.
Late sixties, still a nipper but recall balls being coated, but they were still a lot heavier than today’s plastic balls. Over the decades FIFA have introduced lighter and lighter balls.
In the 70’s, when I made the first teams at 16, all games were played with white Mitre balls. They would swerve etc but nothing like the balls when I finished playing at 42 ish, having dropped two divisions to keep playing.
And it was catch the ball at all costs. Plus the gloves they use makes the ball stick like chewing gum to a pavement. The games has changed so much.
On a different note, I turned on Match of the Day this morning and was greeted by players kneeling on one knee. Turned it straight off. I thought political stances were banned (remember the poppy ban on internationals for the home country’s) give it up for Christ’s sake. BLM it is a movement that has entered a frightening era, intent on destroying democracy sounds a bit like something already out there with the same motive.
Those oversized gloves Johnstone uses reminds me of Kenny Everett. Then again, his performance reminds me of him as well.

Johnstone is an average Keeper. He will save basic and regulation shots at goal. But anything outside of that will be parried or let in.
A top Keeper would have saved their 1st goal, and probably their 3rd too.
He has already cost us 2 points this season.
Its an issue, but I can't see us buying another keeper now. So we will have to make do.
