Replacement as in his place in the first team.
In your opinion. A lot of fans are frustrated at Harkes and have been for a while. I doubt we're signing an international quality player to battle with Powers for the stand-in central midfielder position.

In MM we have a very experienced coach who will be able to see that we can't keep the ball in midfield and offer very little creativity. He won't be happy with that. (Chalmers has offered more since he broke through than any of the others put together). Fans have their own opinion, FWIW mine is that Harkes flatters to deceive. As I've said before, a better player beside him might improve him.
Like I said earlier, if he's an improvement on either of them, then get him in as I think we can do better than both of those players. No one really knows what type of central midfielder this guy is, but I don't see him coming in to sit on the bench. We're looking to improve the team, not provide competition for those who can't get in the team.
Fittest and athlete. Who cares? I want the boy to control football games, contribute to and score goals. Harkes doesn't do this enough for me.
6-2 game? Yeah he's just needing to belt one in from 25 yards to convince any doubters. Wasn't the 6-2 game the last time his midfield mate scored too?
I don't really know what type of bracket Harkes falls into as a midfielder, he isn't much of a creator and isn't a stopper. He covers a lot of ground though and picks out the odd pass and is quite good at keeping the ball when we need to run down the clock at times but are his attributes enough? I quite like him as a player and maybe he can evolve into either a creative player or a combative defensive midfielder. My money's on the latter.
