It was just good old British seaside postcard type humour.......most of us born in the 50’s through to the 70’s “got it”.

There’s never been any accusations against Benny in all the years since he died unlike with many other performers of that era.

I think it’s safe to say your assumptions are wrong.
At one point The Benny Hill Show was shown in 90 or so countries making Hill a multi-millionaire due to having one of the most popular TV shows ever.

He lived in Southampton in a traditional semi-detached house and never let the fame go to his head. My Dad's side of the family who live in Hampshire knew him, my uncle who lived near Southampton was one of Hill's closest friends for well over 30 years as they both worked together in the early days, staying in close contact and meeting up occasionally until Hill's death.

Unlike so many of the virtue signalling celebrities of today typified by people such as Lineker who use social media to tell everyone how wonderful and caring they are, Hill used to anonymously give big sums away to good causes whilst maintaining a very normal lifestyle himself but never made public his philanthropy.

As for the comment about 'perving around with young girls' that's an ill informed comment. Most or nearly all of the regular women in the show such as Jenny Lee Wright were in their 30's when the show was made. Like a lot of comedy such as Fawlty Towers etc that is getting hammered by the woke brigade of today, Hill always used to tell his friends that the joke was always on him much in the way John Cleese set up the Basil Fawlty character.

Any assumptions that he was a dirty old man are based purely on people watching the show and putting 2 + 2 together making 6. He did have a relationship with Jenny Lee Wright from time to time I was told but as I say, she was in her 30's. But, as you say, that show would not have a prayer today and I'm waiting to hear it joining a long list of others cancelled out from history.
