I think Trump is trying to cling on because of all the law suits that are probably awaiting him when he leaves office.
Well, if he does concede defeat, which I think he will, he's still in office until January, which is worrying.
As for oldpie's football comparison, a perceived unjust incident in a football match is a huge deal if you lose by one goal, you don't wait until the end of the match to protest it if you think it's going to affect the outcome. If you end up losing 4-1, most people will accept it and move on.
Exactly this IMO
With rumoured $300m debts, personally guaranteed by him to be paid back in the next 4 years to foreign banks and investors also. It's fairly easy to keep those away when you can dictate trade and tariffs with the very country those banks are from. Likewise, when you can use the US Justice Department as your personal toy to bat away potential indictments from the Manhattan DA and New York attorney general it's easy to see why he'd want to cling onto power. Likewise running to the Supreme Court when things don't go his way is another tactic. This has never been about what he can do for his country and all about what his country can do for him.
Exactly this. We have entered dangerous territory.
There is no doubt Trump is trying to negotiate some sort of immunity before he leaves office.
He only cares for himself, if the whole of the US needs to go down to save his own skin he will see that as a price worth paying.
Will he do the honourable thing this weekend?
Hillary Clinton and her supporters ended up blaming the Russians after she lost and occasionally it would make the news with the latest claim of 'proof'. I expect we'll be seeing a mere repeat of that, directed at American big tech/media rather than Russian bots, though not necessarily from Trump if he does manage to do a deal in return for his silence on the matter.
I'm more annoyed with the BBC right now for claiming that Southampton have topped the Premier League for the first time ever. When I read it, I thought - Do they mean since 1992 or have they never topped the top flight? Turns out they did top the 1st tier in the 1980s. Grrrrr.
Looks like Trump might be losing a few media mates over there. Nobody likes to back a loser:
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch's US outlets and the man himself have long been seen as keen Donald Trump supporters - but there may be a change of tone afoot. Murdoch's Fox News, the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal all seem to be preparing their audiences for his defeat, and distancing themselves from the president. Fox News angered Trump on election night by calling Arizona for Democrat Joe Biden. Since then, the network has largely stepped around the president's unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud. "We just haven't seen it. It hasn't been presented to us," Fox News host Brett Baier said on air on Friday.
Murdoch was reported to have distanced himself from Trump 3 weeks ago.
