    Busy Bodies!

This type of person has always got on my t it’s........we all know the sort, too much time on their hands and always sticking their noses in.

I’ve lived in my rural spot for three years now, I have only one close neighbour and I keep myself to myself......I say “hello” to my neighbour and to anyone else I see when I’m out exercising but I’m not the sort to join committees etc.

Today we received a letter from someone at the Parish Council.

Apparently, the half a dozen small tree stumps I put on the grass verge in front of my front hedge are a “hazard”.

They prevent anybody about to crash from ploughing across said grass verge!

I was reminded that this is “Council Land”.

I shall be reminding them that this land is so valuable and sacred that they require me to cut it........in fact, if it wasn’t for the charity of the local farmers no grass or hedge cutting or snow clearing would ever get done on our stretch of road!

We put these tiny lumps of wood on the verge because when we moved in the whole patch was chewed up mud from any delivery van or the postie parking on there.

It was also done to deter people from letting their dog s h I t outside my house like they’d been previously allowed to do because the previous owner had left it looking like they didn’t care.

This jobsworth would rather have a muddy s h I t patch ready for the one in a million driver who needs my ten yards of frontage to save themselves from a head on death whilst mowing me down on my own drive!

These “Little Hitlers” at the Local
Council and the sad t w a t who dobbed me in need to get a life.

These bits of wood have been in situ for three years for Christ’s sake.......just as well there’s been no need for this escape route during this period.

The most ironic thing is that the council’s verge on the opposite side is a f king shambles and totally overgrown!!

These people are imbeciles granted power.

Ask them what constitutes the stumps being hazardous for others if it hasn't already been outlined in the letter.

Explain your reasoning for why they're there and see whether it resonates.

If they are beyond the legal boundaries of your property don't ask them if you needed planning permission to put them there in the first instance though.

There are a lot of very unfunny funny people on committees and I can almost guarantee their response will leave you feeling more than a little stumped.

I hate the council with a passion! In my council area you get a small bin with less than 6 in a house or more than 6 you get a double bin. I asked what was the rationale of a house with five getting the same size of bin as an old lady by herself - the reply was dunno! I offered to pay for a large bin but was rudely turned down.

My reply was f uck you and from now will not separate paper/bottles etc which takes time and go to the tip and chuck the lot in together.
So much for councils working together with communities!

So if it's a small bin for less than six and a big bin for more than six how big's the bin for a household of six? That's probably a lot easier to type and read to yourself than it is to say out loud 😊 .

Just tell the council that you are a ‘traveller’, they will leave you well alone.

The world is full of pointless busy bodies with too much time on their hands. I've had a run-in with Bromsgrove Council several times over things. A lot of the time its some useless pen pusher usually not in full possession of the facts acting on one side of the story.

I had a very officious letter from them once demanding I cut a beech hedge which borders a footpath. They gave me 30 days or else. In the end as it rumbled on I sent them a solicitors letter stating what they were asking me to do was illegal as you can't cut hedgerows in summer. I also pointed out that the complainant wanted to park on a narrow footpath which in itself would block the pavement to pedestrians and that the hedge did not impede pedestrians. In the end my solicitor told them we'd bang them in court for harassment and they went away.

Under no circumstances would I move those stumps as it could well be someone wanting somewhere for their dog to s***

I doubt they've the money to mount any legal challenges as they've probably spent what they had on unconscious bias training. As 68 says, I'd ask them for clarity and justification as I guarantee its some jumped up twerp acting on half of the story.

I was actually asked to “remove the posts and stones” of which I have neither........they are small offcuts from a small tree that was cut down and are about the size of logs you’d put on a wood burner.

From any legal standpoint my argument would be that I had been asked to remove things that I had never actually had in place.

I’m quite looking forward to them taking this legal now🤓

Based on experience I would. Don't volunteer you don't have 'posts and stones'. Make sure you take photos now so they can't claim you've removed 'posts and stones' at a later date. I'd string them along and have some fun with it. Let them threaten all they like.

Its undoubtedly someone local who has too much time on their hands who has created this and the stupid council hasn't checked their facts. .

I live in a rural setting which is also a conservation area. All the lanes around me are single track and my property is on the corner of a crossroads. Last year my neighbour at the farm opposite cut a few low hanging branches off a hedge row that was completely covering the only road sign for quite a few miles. This was to help visitors to the area who were often lost and confused, especially cyclists and to stop the inevitable intrusion if we were ever outside on a sunny day with people asking for directions
He was sent a letter threatening him with a £20k Fine .
Mind you there is one real so and so on the local parish council that in a previous life was probably a commander of a Nazi death camp.
Strange how they never complain when he gets his tractor out and clears the snow.
