    And right on cue.

Your vehicle is no longer taxed.

    Dear @hotmail.co.uk,

DVLA have been notified electronically about you latest payment for your vehicle tax failed because there is not enough money on you debit card.

We sent you a DVLA bill, and we still haven't received payment. If you've paid it in the last five days, please ignore this email.

To see if your payment has cleared you can:
    Check your vehicle TAX >

Notice: Un-taxed vehicles risk a fine of up to £240.

    Yours sincerely
    @GOV.UK
    Vehicles Service Manager

Didn't know that the DVLA operated from a Hotmail account!

Through some deft keyboarding largely by Mrs Sid, Facebook tracked it down and restored the money.
However, I was advised to report it so that there was a record of my being hacked in case the villains tried identity fraud. They had already pinned me to a credit card of their invention. What's to stop them buying a car in your name or even worse. If you have reported it, the evidence is there that you were a victim. All passwords now changed.
How on earth did you manage to get your bank account hacked via Facebook? Am I missing something here?

This thread makes me think of the late Lord Magwales. He would go to great lengths to engage the scammers in hilariously long and elaborate email exchanges.

I used Facebook for advertising - one time only. The hackers set up a false sportswear company and used my bank account to pay for FB advertising. How they created a false credit card and tied it to me is beyond my reckoning.

Ah, Magwales. Miss the old feller a lot. I was still in regular touch with him to the very end of his days. Great sense of humour.

Mmm he was such a character. So many stories. So many iffy jokes. Think he made a number of friends via this forum (although obviously you'd known him for years) and it's good to think of that. He was still emailing and making us laugh at the end as you say.

What a presence on here he was too. Whenever I see tweed mentioned, the first thought is always of Magwales and those tweed knickers

Just makes me feel sorry for some older folk who are confused by this sort of thing and probably pay up needlessly through worry. Some real bast@rds about in my opinion.
It would be a bit unkind to point out that anyone reading your contributions on here would maybe think you were easily conned.

    So I won’t.

    Thanks.

I often think that criminals who think up fraud schemes like this ought to be capable of making an honest living.
