Why are we talking about footballer fatigue anyway? Because Enzio didn't start and instead came off the bench to win us the game?

It's definitely a faster game now, the game has evolved so much in past couple of decades.
More impact as in overall the players run faster, jump higher, have greater stamina. With better nutrition , sports science analysis and increases muscle mass the 22 players that start a game are far superior physical specimens to their predecessors. Plus sports men and women of all types are evolving and getting physically better not a surprise when you see world records being continually broken and times reducing in athletics.
Players run further, more sprints etc
Like I said email a strength and conditioning coach or sports scientist and you will get the answer you need. Or try and find a piece done by Gary Neville on the subject which explained it from a footballers view in laymen terms.

NA would probably have benched Elisha and/or Ruben yesterday if he had a full squad to choose from. They were both off the pace and, at the risk of introducing yet another modern term, looked mentally fatigued throughout. I expect JOB to start on Tuesday in place of Ruben and Enzio in place of Eli. They can hopefully be impact subs if we need them.
It's an embarrassment on scale with losing to Mansfield every time we lose in this league.
Every other NL manager could only dream of bringing a player like Enzio off the bench, whatever the fitness stats said.
Ardley’s a lucky man.
He certainly is without doubt, glad he did bring him off the bench with half an hour to go.
That doesn't make Durhampie's statement and less ridiculous. If Mark Stallard read those comments he would be shaking his head in disbelief or at least disappointment.
So if they are "far superior physical specimens to their predecessors"' why the f*ck is running around for 90 minutes twice a week so hard?
Can anyone old enough to remember imagine Brian Stubbs saying "sorry boss, I've played three times in eight days, can you put me on the bench because I'm feeling fatigued"?
