I am in my 50th year this season, home and (most) away every year.

The "novelty" of being in the NL is beginning to wear off now, visiting the likes of Bromley, Sutton, and now Kings Lynn and Weymouth. This is the level we are at however, and for a reason.

Next year Notts will have no parachute money, two clubs will have the full £500k and Wrexham should be the new Salford with their Hollywood money.

IF Stockport don't go up, they will presumably have big funding again.

There is hope though, the likes of Barrow, Macclesfield, and now Torquay, Sutton etc prove that you can find the right formula on lower budgets and resources. It's about finding the best fit manager and unsung players that have that desire and chemistry.

If I am correct, I think Notts had 6 players in the starting lineup that are over 31 and at times it shows.

Hate to say it but Notts could be another Luton, Oxford, Wrexham, a decent sized club at this level with a decent fanbase, lots of history, good stadium, which counts for absolutely nothing.

When the world returns to normal, will I be at the games - you bet I will, but more for the day out than any real expectation of success.

The sides in the Conference this season are rubbish. I heard somebody describe Torquay as 'exceptional' earlier! Really?! If we don't get back to the league this season, I fear for the future.

The teams we have lost to this season alone show that we are now truly non league.
That was me that said exceptional and what I meant by that was you have be head and shoulders above everyone else at your level winning a lot of games regularly and consistently throughout the season to get automatic promotion. Especially at this level.

It’s not to be confused with comparisons with teams in leagues one, two for example.

Yes it hurts to see our automatic promotion hopes fading as the gap widens but the reality is 1/4 way in and we have not been exceptional compared to every other team we have played at our level so far otherwise we would be top. Torquay have.

Not a good night, compounded by all our ‘rivals’ getting good results. I didn’t actually think our performance was that bad, barring one or two players, and thought we looked dangerous with the 4-4-2 until O’brien went off for Sam.

It effectively ends our hopes of automatic promotion and with our inconsistent nature I wouldn’t bet on us winning the playoffs...if indeed we actually make them, though it is still early days.

I dunno, I’m disappointed but not surprised, unfortunately.

    Totally agree MM.

At the risk of stating the flippin' obvious, the team that gets the one automatic spot, is the team that dominates throughout the season.
So far it's the boys down in Devon, previously, Barrow, Brizzle Rovers, Cheltenham, Macc', etc.
    They don't lose many.

I will be very interested to see how good Stockport are on the TV shortly. One of the YouTube Notts lads said that Cal Roberts was the best player in the NL. I think it's Rooney at Stockport.

Notts are a million miles from being that dominant force.

Boreham Wood looked fitter, stronger, quicker, better organised, and had more attacking intent. What bothers me is the fact their squad was probably assembled at a fraction of the cost of ours. Yes, players like O'Brien and Turner have league experience and 'pedigree', whatever that means, but did they look a cut above BW's players last night? Not at all.

Despite having decent new owners, we're still spending big on 'big' name players (for this level) who are past it. We have to spend twice as much as other clubs just to be able to compete.

And all this talk of 'automatic looking unlikely now' - well it was never going to happen anyway. There's always one team who has a freakishly good season and only loses a handful of games. We've already lost a handful. Ardley simply isn't the type of manager who leads teams to runaway championships. So we'll have to make do with the playoffs at best, and yes, the inevitable collapse to a better organised, fitter, faster, and stronger opposition full of players we've never heard of.
