As I recall, the request was made to devolve legislative power to allow Holyrood to make legal safe drug consumption spaces. I suppose that to mean the ‘shooting *********’ as in Trainspotting.

I compared the four conurbations nearest to Dundee in size across the UK (2011 census data) where the same legislation applies, and Dundee fares significantly worse in comparison, suggesting that the casualty rate there is due to a local factor. News analysis suggests that casualty rates up here are considerably worse overall, with Dundee the sore thumb.

The question has to be why under the same system, is Scotland - Dundee in particular - performing so poorly?

The frontline workers and drugs experts in Scotland are mostly in agreement, though, that having supervised injection sites “might help” but it is not a panacea to the whole drug crisis.

They say this kind of thinking needs to be combined with support for other addiction services, such as rehabilitation, mental health support, and addiction therapy.

Dr Andrew McAuley, one of Scotland’s foremost drug experts, told us many of Scotland’s drug deaths could be entirely preventable.

“You could resource that treatment system in the here and now and you would see gains,” he says.

“All the evidence points to that being the most effective way to keep people alive. We are certainly not doing it quick enough - if anything we’ve taken resources out of that system over the past five years.

“It is not the response you would put in place if you wanted to keep people alive.””

On the rare occasions I used to buy my recreational enhancements, there was quite a series of hurdles to overcome. Usually ending up being ripped off at some dodgy c*nts house. Fast forward 25 years and the youth have a number of options open to them. They can still buy it off the exact same dodgy c*nts, who operate out the exact same houses. They can simply transfer the money & get the local taxi service to drop it off or they can get it shipped straight to their door from internet. It doesn’t even need to be the dark web. Guy I work with recently won £200 worth of weed on a Facebook raffle.

Think it’s safe to say the war on drugs isn’t going well. The problem is that everything political in Scotland is an independence issue. A softer approach to drug using, would be turned by Dross into ‘Sturgron wants to turn your kids into junkies’. We need far more grown ups from all parties working together on this & we simply don’t have them.

Indeed we do, but as long as career politicians are groomed to toe the party line, and are elected on whatever badge displayed next to their name on the ballot paper, relying on loyalty to ideology rather than pragmatism to remain and prosper in parliaments, it's not happening.

Joanna Cherry has went full Gulliani, that insufferable wee gob****e Angus McNeil is working directly against the party & a significant amount of the membership are wanting a return of the fat Jambo handsy mess. It’s all very strange.

Roughly translated, the new amendment says a father has to be a man and a mother has to be a woman.
