I believe that the reasoning behind this is that all those Uni students who wish to go on to be career politicians will be well versed in the subject, nay, indeed, they will be qualified and should be able to convince everyone that they know best without any further need to consult scientists etc.

Who needs to know about Maths, English and IT stuff when you can be well versed in Covid-19? Sorted!

You are very selective in what you copied

Here’s more from WHO updated 1 Dec 2020 that says otherwise.

    https://www.who.int/emergencies/dise...w-to-use-masks

    Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission and save lives;

If COVID-19 is spreading in your community, stay safe by taking some simple precautions, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue. Check local advice where you live and work. Do it all!

Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people.
The appropriate use, storage and cleaning or disposal of masks are essential to make them as effective as possible.

    Touche!
Selective OC ? Of course I've been selective, I've selected those parts of the WHO paper which the government and media don't want you to know about, and in fact confirm precisely what I've been saying all along,

" they're not much use, and when not used correctly, and they're not used correctly 99% of the time, they can lead to increased transmission risks."

You wouldn't believe me, perhaps you think the WHO are wrong as well ? Which parts of the bits I've selected, if any, do you think they've got wrong ?

Sweden's government is recommending wearing face masks on public transport during the rush hour, reversing its earlier Covid guidance.
It will also cut from the current eight to four per table the number of people sitting together in restaurants, and ban alcohol sales after 20:00.
PM Stefan Löfven unveiled the measures, which will take effect soon.
Elsewhere in Europe, Italy and Austria are the latest countries to be placed in lockdowns over the Christmas period.
Sweden, which has never imposed a full lockdown, has seen nearly 360,000 cases and 8,000 deaths - many more than its Scandinavian neighbours.
The country had previously been one of only a few nations not to recommend masks in public outside of healthcare settings.
This is despite strong recommendations given by the World Health Organization (WHO).

    Headline in Friday's Times.

"Hospitals busier with Covid now than they were in first wave"

After the Grauniad's lies it's the Times now trying it on. The first line in the piece gives the game away immediately,

"A fifth of hospital trusts in England are dealing with more coronavirus patients than at the height of the first wave, Times analysis of government figures shows."

So a fifth of hospitals, 20%, are busier, a bit of simple maths shows then that 80% are less busy. So hospitals as a whole are less busy, 80% of them are dealing with fewer coronavirus patients than in the first wave, but you'd never think so reading that misleading headline. Why does our media feel this need to keep lying to us ? Do they think that a lot of people actually need to be lied to, they want to be lied to ? Maybe they do, there are certainly posters on here who don't seem to mind the lies.

Well Wales now locked down - nowt to do with Boris.

The whole of Wales will be placed under lockdown from midnight with festive plans cancelled for all but Christmas Day.
First Minister Mark Drakeford made the announcement after urgent talks with ministers over a new strain of coronavirus.
From 23 to 28 December rules had been due to be relaxed to allow people to celebrate the holidays with loved-ones.
But now this is limited to just Christmas Day.

The virus has a day off on Xmas Day

Nicola and her neverending sword of Damocles

More preventative action may be "necessary" to stop a faster-spreading strain of coronavirus taking hold, Nicola Sturgeon has said.
Her warning followed a meeting of representatives from the UK's four nations to discuss the new strain.
The Scottish cabinet was meeting on Saturday to discuss the situation.
