O/T bands you thought were crap then realised they were brilliant

God yeah, it's a huge miss. I go to a couple of gigs a month as well as loads of theatre on London. I'm not good at sitting in the house day after day. Just had refund for Nicjk Cave gig at the O2 - had front row tix. Gutted.

The Eagles. At the height of their fame, I could take them or leave them. Having seen them live for the first time in about 2004 - and then having a daughter who really gets them - my mind has been very thoroughly changed.

Never got The Rolling Stones at all through my t.eenage years and later adult life. It's been about the last 10 years or so I've really got to like their music. Strange how your music choice changes like it does, bit like not liking sprouts or turnip as a kid but now I love em both.

I had the same sort of thing with Northern Soul.

I know there's some really passionate lovers of it on here, but when I was younger I mistakenly thought it was all the "Band of Gold" sort of stuff which I hated (stil do if I'm being honest) but I saw a documentary on the scene few years ago and it was a real eye-opener as to how much more there was to it than the hand full of tracks I didnt like that I'd associated with it.
There's quite a few tracks I absolutely love now and I've even been to a few northern soul nights.

I used to love Paint it Black when I was younger but I prefer Gimme Shelter now.
It's an excellent opening track in 'The Departed' film.
There's also a good back story behind the writing and the recording of the song.

As far as the original topic goes, I never liked Pink Floyd when I was a youngster preferring Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zep and the much heavier stuff at the time but have come to appreciate them now.
