Just seen the highlights and the snowy scenes for their winning goal brought back bad memories of that MOTD thrashing at Watford around 50 years ago.
I remember that CAM
It was only one of 4 games that survived the weather.
Lost 5-1.
This was our first season after relegation from level 2 ( Division 2 at the time)
I went to the home game v Watford earlier in the season and we lost that 2-0. I remember them being a very good side and I think they went up with Swindon (Danny Williams came back as Swindon boss in our last home game 1-1 draw)
Do you remember the other game selected for Match of the Day? It involved last night’s’ opponents Cardiff, who, like Watford, scored 5 in their 5-0 win over Oxford United.

I cant say that the ref definitely cost us the game with the bottled penalty decision, but it's a big call that would almost certainly have seen us go in front. What got to me about the decision was that in the previous 5 mins, he had given Cardiff 2 free kicks from our corners for fouls (allegedly) on their keeper and on one of their defenders, with the most minimal of contact, and yet he didnt deem it a foul, when their defender, who cant possibly get to the ball, clatters in to smithys back and knocks him down inside the area.
However, that alone doesn't excuse our defending for their first goal, and whilst some have been quick to blame Harding losing his man for their winner (and no not his best game btw) I personally believe we should have cut the cross out, and gave their lad way too much time to put the ball in.
I think Cardiff are a decent side and will bully most teams, but we could and should have had something from the game UTM
It was a shocking match with shocking officials making shocking decisions.
A premiership team from a couple of seasons ago brought us down to their level.
