The sister in law fell in the snow yesterday and broke her leg, she got taken to Clacton Hospital who transfered her to Colchester so a specialist could see her, she broke it in 2 places so needs an operation, she gets tested for Covid every week as she is an advisor and instructor to the health service on all things Covid and goes around the Country teaching how to us PPE and be safe.

She was not checked for Covid at Clacton but was at Colchester, she was tested positive which was a shock to her and us.

She has not been around for 6 days so we are probably OK, the thing is she is the one who sailed with her then husband across the Atlantic to South America and back to Africa before coming home, the boat (a concrete one) has been in dry dock while it is being done up, she has lived in a small caravan at the foot of the boat for 10 months while its done up, there is scaffolding up to the boat but she will not be able to get up now with her broke leg and the small caravan is not going to be much help.

Hope she's ok soon.If she survived going across the Atlantic in a concrete boat she'll probably be fine.Personally I'd decline a trip to Knott End in one.

Israeli scientists bid goodbye to biopsies with blood test. Researchers at Hebrew University of Jerusalem hope new method, which examines what cells are dying and why, will replace invasive procedures that are painful and only useful when a disease has reached sufficiently advanced stage.
A team of Israeli researchers has developed a new inexpensive blood test that could help doctors detect cancer and other diseases early replacing invasive biopsies.
Biopsies, in which tissue samples are extracted for analysis, are a common medical procedure used by doctors to detect many conditions. They are often invasive, painful and can only be used only when a disease has reached a sufficiently advanced stage.
Hebrew University of Jerusalem researchers Dr. Ronen Sadeh, Dr. Israa Sharkia and Prof. Nir Friedman claim to have found just that with a simple blood test (liquid biopsy) that allows lab technicians to identify the state of dead cells throughout the body.

“When cells die in our body [every tissue is made of cells] some of the DNA from the cells leaks into our blood,”
But DNA alone does not allow scientists to identify where specific cells originated since the DNA sequencing is identical in all of the body’s cells. They had to look at a combination of the DNA and a unique chemical code that is written on the proteins bound to the DNA, known as histones.
“Every cell has two meters of DNA, more or less,” ( Read if you wish for more )

Sounds like a big step forward Balan, hats off to them. I had a biopsy on my tongue, a blood test would have been preferable I think

thats a bummer - Alto....though am surprised they didn't blame the fall on Convid - and still they use PCR to diagnose what it can't diagnose - Unbelievable !...but isn't it all.

a bad break - speedy recovery to her.

    So now the question?

Israel's leaders have a responsibility to the vaccinated
Opinion: Elected officials must put vaccine refusers in their place, despite the possible legal objections; those who refuse to aid the battle against the pandemic should not have the right to sit at a restaurant, go to school or visit a shopping mall

And yet this success remains very fragile; just one virus carrier is all that is needed to make it all collapse.

For example, asked a veteran jurist, how can we prevent people who will not be vaccinated from entering a pharmacy or a supermarket, when these essential businesses were open during lockdown?
When it comes to these kinds of issues, judges and jurists find a balance - it is not an accurate science. But the final responsibility always lies with the lawmakers.

Though intentions are good, our civil rights are far more important.
If you refuse to get vaccinated, you do not have a basic right to go to a restaurant, attend school or shop at a mall.
The rights of those who have been vaccinated to live a normal life supersedes the rights of those who won't abide by the measures required to do so.

The minority who refuse to have the vaccine must keep living in lockdown while the majority who have been inoculated will be able to exit it. Do vaccinated people have a basic human right to defend themselves ?What about my freedom of choice? Or is freedom of choice only for the anti-vaxers?

''To be B T, or not to be ,that is the question''?

Pfizer vaccine reduces rate of symptomatic infections by 94%, research shows
Study also shows that a week after receiving the second dose, the vaccine is 91-99% efficient in preventing the pathogen from evolving into a serious illness; results expected to become much more accurate as time passes and as more Israelis pass the-two week benchmark after second jab.

Research released Sunday shows that Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is exceptionally effective in preventing infection and severe illness in all age groups, including those aged 70 and over.
The study includes data on some 1.2 million Israelis, of whom about 600,000 have received both doses of the Pfizer’s vaccine.

It shows a reduction of 94% in the rate of symptomatic infection and a reduction of 92% in the rate of serious illness among those who received two doses of the vaccine.

The research also showed that a week after receiving the second dose, the Pfizer vaccine is 91-99% efficient in preventing the pathogen from evolving into a serious illness ranges.
