It would have to be somebody like Wrexham who could offer him decent money. Longer term he may well end up managing another team at this level but quitting a promoted Notts for a 5th tier club seems unlikely. A 4th tier club being interested after he oversaw a relegation last time around seems a bit far fetched unless he was already out of work and desperate.

If he'd done what he did at Wimbledon with another club, his achievement there would carry much more weight, but he just looks like another manager who rode the good feeling that long serving and popualr ex-players can enjoy and he's not going to get that anywhere else. he's certainly not getting that here and if other clubs do their homework I can't see there being much of a queue, if one at all, for his services.
Well Cox got a League 2 job so I think it’s very possible. Obviously many on here have a harsh view but if he gets us up and has something close to a win % of 50% over the last couple of years a lot of clubs will have a look. We may think it’s not much of achievement getting us out this league but potential suitors will know other wise with the amount of big clubs that have failed for years to do it.

Cox most likely got that job on the basis he was an ex-Scunny player above anything else but you make a fair point otherwise. At Notts we have nobody else to compare Ardley to at this level. We don't really know if we are *that* bad or if it's the league we're in that's making us look so poor (and always will do, until we get out of it). Some NL teams who come to Meadow Land or appear on TV might look decent and fun to watch, but are they able to perform like that week in week out?

There's no guarantee another manager will improve things, they wouldn't have the same baggage though. The passage of time isn't making it any easier not to feel very bitter towards Ardley each time we go into any kind of slump. He's a strong link to the darkest season in our history and that needs breaking. He could do it himself by making a success of Notts but he's been here so long now that I can't see us ever feeling that yet another uninspiring period of negative displays is just around the corner. If we do go up I expect it'll be a case of stumbling over the line somehow rather than having a Warnock like run-in and there will not be that much confidence that we can push on in L2 as long as Ardley is still in charge. Somebody else coming in for him would be god send and a win win for all concerned.

I do like the guy as I think he represents the club really well and totally believe he’s trying to do the right things on and off the pitch and that can’t be said about all managers. That said I’ve found myself firmly on the fence now with the performances this season but there’s a long way to go, if he got us up as champions and won the FA trophy that would be some season, it’s an absolute massive IF, but would be really interesting to get peoples views then.

Theres more chance of finding Lord Lucan than Ardley getting us promoted.. As for living in a flat on his own, well that was his choice. He had the option of turning the job down...

I thought that was actually because Cox left for Scunny? They were sharing prior to that as far as I was aware.

Of course he did but Mr Hardy made it so financially rewarding to become Notts manager it was probably impossible to turn down.

Alan was always very generous when it comes to salaries at Notts.

Right now I would love to have that issue and decision to make with us struggling a little in L2 around the new year
I actually dont mind this option...
Although I'd rather a new manager completely..

Your shouldn't mind it at all, it means we get promoted and Ardley leaves about half way through that season. That's got to better than swapping managers now in NL?

If you could guarantee that then yes I'd take it any day of the week...
But to re iterate I dont believe he can take us up.
But you already know this as I'm sure I've said it 100 times plus now.
    But also..
I would love it if Ardley could change his style and make more use of the squad by being more attacking and positive..
That way we all should get what we want.
It's a shame hes so stuck on his safety first approach.

If he did make us champions and win the FA trophy of course more people would back him. That being said i think you have more chance of being let into Area 51 than Ardley winning us the league. He's an awful manager, who's been given ridiculous backing this season despite showing he's tactically poor. The longer he stays the more chance we have at becoming Stockport. I've said it many of times on here, if Notts want a young manager who will take us forward, we should approach Boreham Wood for Luke Garrard.
