There is a very simple solution instead of spending a fortune on the Test and Trace which does not work throughout the U.K. due to a lack of ‘joined up thinking’.
People should have their temperature taken before they enter any shop, business premises, GP surgery, dentists or public building throughout the whole of the UK. If it was above a permitted level they would be told to immediately get a Covid-19 test and self isolate until they get their result.
Last April some of the prominent natives on Islay were very jumpy about Coronavirus (that is what it was called back then) being imported into the island. There was even talk about some of them standing on the pier at Port Ellen and Port Askaig and if they did not recognise anyone coming off the Calmac these people would be told to immediately travel back to Kennacraig.
If the staff in the Calmac ferry terminal at Kennacraig took the temperature of every person who arrived to sail on the ferry to Islay, anyone whose temperature was above certain limit would be prevented from sailing and told to immediately get a coronavirus test.
There would be no exemptions for local Islay residents. Every passenger would have to have their temperature taken before boarding the ferry sailing to Islay.

On the contrary since last August every time my wife attends her podiatrist in Dundee she gets her temperature taken as soon as she enters the premises. Her temperature has always being OK. I assume that if her temperature was high she would be told to get a Covid-19 test. One of the symptoms of having the Covid-19 virus is having a fever which of course could be the flu.
