I would argue they are the exceptions that prove the rule IMHO. I guarantee there are/have been many, many more who have conversely failed to make it by going too early. I think one of the major issues is agents getting in to these young guy’s heads and promising the earth while in reality all that’s important to the agent is their personal commission.

You also have to have a Manager who will play them, we have shipped all our best young players out on loan. If a big club comes in for them this summer who would blame them for leaving. Better to be loaned out on 2k a week than loaned out on 200
