I'm not sure I see the contradiction.

Too right we should be starting each competition aiming to win them. The two cups speak for themselves as clearly no reason not to aim to win them. It will be refreshing if we start the league season saying we can win it rather than the normal McInnes defeatist p1sh that we are aiming for third because we can't finish above celtic/sevco due to budgets blah blah blah. That's not to say we will actually win any of them but at least get rid of the pathetic negative mindset that seems to infect the club currently. See below for quote from Sheerin pre-match

The aim is to try and stay in the cup and to see how far that we can go. As a club we pride ourselves on getting to the later stages of cup competitions so we will try to do that.

There is just much f'ckin wrong with that attitude I don't know where to start. "try to stay in the cup", "pride ourselves in getting to later stages of cup" "we will try". NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

Since when did "trying" to beat the team second bottom of the third league become acceptable?

Since when did getting to the later stages rather than wining the cup become something to be proud of?

As I said defeatist p1sh and glad to see Cormack trying to eradicate it.

Now the reason I don't see a contradiction is that we can aim to win everything but clearly we won't - that won't be a sackable offence, as long as he has us playing attractive football and has the right attitude. However he has put down a marker that he expects us to be winning a trophy every few years. If Glass doesn't deliver then that will be a sackable offence. He was deliberately vague but I would imagine a few is something like every 3-4 seasons.

I hear what you are saying min, but to me saying acceptable as success is winning a trophy every "few" seasons is also like admitting the fact that we are not going to win everything.
For sure the winning mentality has been drained out of the club by the previous management team, who accepted a treble of runners up as success.
Although I was not over the moon when Scott Brown was announced I am thinking that is the very reason he has been taken in to get that winning mentality bred into everyone so that winning is a way of life.

Time will tell, I'm still just not sure I trust Cormack 100%, he just seems a bit of a slippery fish to me, but I hope him and Glass go on to prove me wrong.

Trying to wn every game we start , by attacking the opposition.....and making chances to score ?

We are way back to the attitude the teams had before Fergie came in ?

But we`d never win games by sitting in , with a change in players to defend more against the cheeks. Especially when they were letting celtic centre half stroll the length of the piitch with the ball without even a tackle. Boils my piss !!

So here`s hoping the " next level" is what we`ve all been screaming for , for years . Intae them, Heid first !!!

( Sure, I also want defenders good enough to defend. Midfielders good enough to chase , harry, tackle THEN make a forward pass. And for fecks sake, lets have our wingers UP the wing. Screw this trendy wingback nonsense. Lets get them UP and in the last third puttiing in DECENT crosses !!! ) THEN, lets see what our strikers can do ? Happy to have one lurking about up front , trying to sneak in behind. Screw this working back " for the team " !!! Old fashioned is just the new styloe these days ?!! )

I hope the new management team realise that all we want really is a different mindset. As has been pointed out, the idea that aiming for 3rd and the “later stages” of cups is somehow an acceptable level of ambition probably p1sses most of us off. There is a difficulty for our chairman or manager to start mouthing off about winning the league or cup after cup cos it’s what the Scottish media want. They can recycle the usual p1sh about us being unrealistic and having ideas above our station. But is there anything wrong with chairman, or manager, saying that we believe we can win the domestic cups, or that we will try to win every league game and see where it takes us? If those statements are unrealistic I’d love to know why?

Is it unrealistic to believe we can put together a squad to win, or have a chance of winning, every league game against non-cheeks teams? Surely not. Is it unrealistic to expect an Aberdeen team that has a right at the erse cheeks home and away? I hope not. And if these things aren’t unrealistic why can’t we expect a team that attacks the opposition and wins a few trophies? It’s utter b0llocks that we shouldn’t ask for more than we’re getting. We might not get there but does that mean we shouldn’t try?

And in saying all that I think we all get that finance plays a huge part in outcomes/results. But when Leicester won the EPL in 2016 their starting eleven cost a fraction (by my fag packet calculations) of the 4 or 5 teams who people thought would win the league. But they put together a good squad, found a bit of confidence/luck and capitalised on those 4 or 5 teams having a dodgy season. We just need two teams to have dodgy seasons and we have our chance!

Is it likely? Probably not, but let’s see where a bit of ambition and positivity takes us. So Cormack and Glass should tell everyone we’ll be having a go in every game we play. If that wins us a few cups, brilliant! If it wins us a league title, hud on ti yer bonnets. I’m lucky I’m old enough to have seen us win a few league titles. Is it unrealistic to believe I might see us win it again? Is it phuck!

any update @Mainstandmoan ? You are being mis/quoted elsewhere that it's 3 internationals joining on Brown's word?

I think it is well known that Declan Gallagher has agreed to join us. I think Scott Brown will definitely need to show his worth and he will have convinced someone of a decent standard to join us as would Allan Russell.
I genuinely think we will surprise a lot of people next season. Cormack won’t have made the bold claim about trying to shift 15k season tickets without being very ambitious. It’s a lot of season tickets to shift unless you have the goods to convince punters to shell their cash.

Agree with this. I think we might end up being pleased with the quality of signings we make.......or as pleased as we get as a support!

    Hope, that’s what it is.

We are getting three new coaching staff.
I reckon they’ll all take two or three new players with them.

    That’s two or three Yanks
    Two or three young English
Two or three Celts ( or players influenced by Scott Brown)

That sounds like a decent influx to me.
As long as they get the mix right* we’re off to a new start.

    * I mean not 1 goalkeeper, 1 stranded forward and 9 defensive midfielders.

I will be probably one of the first to pull him up if we are not performing the way he aims the club to be. If you make bold statements like selling 15k season tickets and aim to win every competition we enter then I fully expect us to at least give it a right good go. I am for giving him a chance to prove himself and in all honesty I want him to succeed.

On another note though....was anyone actually convinced about this Hernández escapade? It’s good that he explained in detail about the transfer of him though, maybe he was feeling guilty about something?!
