A mate of mine insists that vinyl is best, especially when played on a high end system. He has a HiFi system that cost thousands, the cartridge alone cost well over £1500, and includes a valve amplifier. The sound is stunning and just sounds more ‘real’ than a CD.

Blimey, that is some serious cash to spend on a sound system. Contrasts dramatically with the little Dansette we had and that I used as a little kid to listen to my sister’s 78’s and 45’s of somebody called Buddy Holly.

Ah yes, the good old Dansette. The hours spend listening to The Beatles on one until I heard Bob Dylan on the radio and pestered my Dad to buy me a Bob Dylan record. I was listening on a Dansette player up until 1970-71 when once I was working I bought a stereo system on the knock. I remember sometimes having to put a halfpenny or a penny on the arm of the Dansette to stop it jumping on some records.
