But Ferguson has been nothing special.

Of course we have had about 129 defensive minded midfielders in the team over the last 3-4 years.

Has he been the best of these? probably, but not by much.

We won’t miss him, hold out for a bit more money then cash in.
Thing is , Watford apparently only offered £1.2M. And from other weegiemedia reports the same non premier league club are reportedly offering £4m for the young Hibbees lad , Doig ??

Do one , Watford , McMurdo and the whole weegia !!!!

There's no way they'll be paying that for either of them.

Ferguson has put in some good performances and scored some important goals over the last couple of years.

Wright scored 2 goals, missed a load of chances and made a few good runs in half a season, he was as bad as the rest of them when he came back from his injury before he fecked off to the Huns.
I agree, Ferguson has achieved more at the club than Wright did. My point was really that you can find another Ferguson easier than you can find another Wright. There’s plenty hard working battling midfielders kicking about. He’s not a playmaker and he doesn’t control games like McLean could and he isn’t the ball winner with leadership skills like Shinnie was. Don’t get me wrong, he’s done well for us overall and has been a great signing - but i don’t think we’ll miss him that much.

Ferguson isn't a defensive minded midfielder, neither is he an offensive minded midfielder, i would say he's more box to box with a good mentality, you say we wouldn't miss him to much, but he has scored 21 goals in the 3 years he's been at the club, when was the last time we had a central midfielder who contributed that many goals?, sure he took penalties when cosgrove wasn't playing, but you have to factor that in, look at the current central midfield options for Aberdeen , Brown, Ojo, Campbell, McGeouch, McCrorie, there isn't a goal in any of them, not consistently, so you are back to demanding 90% of the goals are scored by the front 3 with a few coming from defenders from set pieces etc

You need to get and or/keep as many goal scorers as possible at the club, espeically in this Aberdeen squad that can't score for ****, amazes me we want to keep McGinn, he's too safe these days and lacks agression, hes good for about 3 goals a season at this stage of his career, if that, he scored ZERO league goals last year but we want to keep him...............that i don't get, he just isn't getting into scoring positions anymore as he has lost the mobility

Nobody’s saying Ferguson is a bad player, I said he’s probably the pick of the bunch, and a pretty big bunch at that, of the midfielders we have had in the last few years.

He’s just not that good though, we’ve watched mediocrity for so long that most have forgotten what a good player looks like.

Oh, and D.C. McLean has never controlled a game in his life.

I suppose we could try and get Campbell from Motherwell to replace Ferguson, that’s if we are willing to spend some money on him.

We definitely need someone with pace in the attacking areas, I just hope it’s not an Atlanta United reserve on loan as was being hinted by Cormack last night.

We just have to tell Watford, politely but firmly, that there’s a gap to bridge. And McMurdo should be told that “not standing in the way” does not mean that Aberdeen accept the first paltry offer that is tabled or that they have to name a price, as Ferguson hasn’t been put in the shop window. Bloody fool!! I wonder where his interests lie? £££?

It seems to be they are hinting at changing the make up of the squad so that perhaps.

    2 x Atlanta on £0/pw
    5 x Youth on £600/pw

means if you go with 25 man squad as we did this season then our budget is stretching much further for the other 18 players. They've obviously hinted this approach might help us afford a star striker.

Let's see how it pans out.
