As Churchill said: “if you’re not a socialist when you’re young, you have no heart but if you are one when you are older, then you have no brain.”

Like many things communism/socialism look great ‘on paper’ but they don’t work in practice due to human nature. I’ve also seen it several times in many countries - each generation tries Socialism to try to ‘improve the world’, it fails, then they don’t want it again. The next generation comes and the mistake is repeated ad infinitum.

That's totally right TopToon. The labour party will never prosper until three things happen.

They become the party of the centre and slightly left of centre.

The heavy lefties as in Corbyn, Abbott et al have no influence whatsoever.

They strengthen up in Scotland and get their lost votes back from those who have turned to the Scots Nats.

As well as the above it would help if they formed a working alliance with the minor parties such as the Greens, Scots Nats and Lib Dems who are all basically anti-Tory.

Afterall despite this giving the Tories a huge majority the Tory vote, last election was 43.6% and the anti-Tory vote was 56.4%

The Scots are baying for independence on a much lesser margin.

True, Pat. I think only very few people (extremists!) agree 100% with the views of any one party and we tend to vote for the one that most represents what we think.
The old days of the major parties rigidly sticking to their traditional values and asking the electorate to vote for them if they agree, have gone. These days the major parties research what most people want and then adapt their manifestos to fit. Blair was an expert at this, Corbyn didn’t do it at all and Starmer must if he’s to stand any chance. So, in a nut shell I agree with you on what he has to do to win.
