If Courts is the man then why are we continuously delaying to cut his preparation time for the season ahead? Instead of Supposedly going for Liam fox as assistant why not just keep Steve Frail? or has been punted too? No communication regarding him.
Honestly, if those rumours are true with Courts as manager with Fox as assistant then I seriously worry for the club. It shows a lack of ambition, Gives the impression we are skint, Experimental manager with a non-experienced Assistant will come off as very naive.
I'm Willing to take Courts as manager (Not over a McInnes or Robinson but still prepared to give him a chance) but we desperately need to appoint a very experienced assistant with him to help. If not then It strikes me as a Cathro style experiment which very rarely work.
So you want to appoint the best manager available who wants the job.
I don't believe for one second that Tam Courts is. That's the problem. Say we appointed my choice McInnes and he loses the first 3 or 4 games you know he has the experience to turn it round. A rookie would get slaughtered in that scenario as would the people responsible for putting the manager in. And rightly so.
Just out of pure interest when would you say we last had a team that WAS pleasing on the eye? Not setting a trap for you mate but for me it was the Jackie Mac side before ST wrecked the club. That seems a very long time ago.
In defence of the Club I think they recognise that it is possible to have a side that gets results AND is good on the eye. Successive teams have looked under coached.
We would just open up so many problems if we appointed Courts imo.
1. Fan reaction will still be big considering its not who most wanted/expected.
2. A few bad results, the knifes will be out quick not just for TC but for Ashgar. (Brings a Thompson style atmosphere back)
3. Experiments very rarely work.
4. IF things start badly then the usual rumours of "doesn't command respect of experienced players" talk will begin.
Its a massive risk. All managers are risky but going for an inexperienced head coach when we have just re-established ourselves in the top flight is highly dangerous. IF benji or Shankland were to be sold we would be faves for relegation. Courts could be great but hes been chucked in out of nowhere and shouldn't be near the job just yet. Appoint someone more experienced, Show some ambition and put Courts on the backroom staff and revisit this 1/2 years time when hopefully in a better position.
This appointment could easily send us back to where MO spent so much to get us out of.
dont think duke is saying that - we have super moaners in certain parts of ground. I agree stoke mcinness would be given a lot more time. First goal 1-0 and its likely a lot more folk will start doubting. why not they are totally unproven so for a club like united its a sensational risk.
I will support the new manager whoever is appointed. If the rumours are true that Tam is to be the new manager then he will get my support as a Dundee United supporter. However, I have been supporting Utd for over 50 years, and I think this is probably the most worried I've ever felt. And that includes the relegation years.
A club of Dundee United's stature cannot find a proven manager. I simply don't believe that's true. A proven manager that will not buy into Uniteds business plan, that is a different story.
We have managed to stay up this year and like everybody else I was hoping we could build on that. The statements from Uniteds board, fill me with fear. If the sole aim of this club is to make money from youngsters, then that is a very flawed business plan imo. We tried it a few years back and got relegated, we seem to have learned nothing. The statements also, imo show a serious lack of ambition. OK we're not going to win the league, but a possibility of winning a cup or finishing in a European spot are going to be a step to far if we are going to sell off the assets that quickly. I will blindly turn up and pay my money and hope that Tam if it is him can prove me wrong
The main concern i have now has been reiterated by Mellon in press today. I enjoyed united but didnt want to be involved in the new direction of the club so was happy to step aside and get back to england. If, as rumours have it, we are now aiming to blood as many youngsters and sell them on with survival the key and money from sales not europe or trophies, then im a tad concerned. Lets see I suppose clearly some rate our crop of youngsters very highly.
edit to say: thats what i was told about the playing kids and also that Tony and Micky never fell out at all just agreed to leave, clearly knowing he was getting Tranmere job but i cant blame him for that.
absolutely and imagine the effect on the youngsters - they will crumble and be worth peanuts. So i have to try and believe we will mix it up with experience and youth.
edit to say: hope courts has a thick skin. Many will look for any crack. Better performances attacking and some results may help him get backing. 3 or 4 losses at start would be meltdown
