They are experts at withholding information which has to be dragged out of them using the Freedom of Information Act or searching through the internet.

I would say that all politicians of any flavour avoid bad news. The person that I see as being the most disingenuous is that Andrew Wilson.

That's the one. I read an article attributed to him recently about Scotland costs versus income after leaving the UK, which to say the very least, was devious. It omitted numerous items which, whilst potentially true, would result in masses of job losses and inevitably much higher taxes. It is a concern that the likes of him refuse to be open about the financial implications of separation. This coming from someone who recognises that all politicians are bandits. Including both Johnson and Sturgeon.

I fail to see how a Scottish Government owned company like Calmac will be able to run the Scottish rail network as Calmac are hopeless at running the current Calmac network.
The Calmac management are hopeless at calculating how long ferries will be in dry dock for their annual overhaul during the winter timetable period with their ferries continually coming back late into service. It is a shambles which has been happening for several years but the Calmac management never learn by their mistakes!

The ship yards make promises of dates for release to service which Calmac have no choice but to take at face value and to plan around. I've yet to see a job come out of a ship yard, or any fabrication yard for that matter, on time and on budget - the problem there isn't Calmac's it's the ship yard's.

But you crack on finding any tiny little crumb of a contrived fact with which to beat Calmac, you're doing a grand job there.

I think the problem is a lack of detail in the setting of the contract terms. Not sure how routine repairs are so difficult to diagnose and commercial terms can't be set and complied with. Have a pal who used to manage tanker refits and repairs. Timing was the essence of the contract as well as the standard of the work. Needless to say most of work was not carried out in UK because of the lack of competent yards in the UK.

In January 2018 we were sailing back to Islay and as usual one of the Calmac ferries on this occasion the Caledonian Isles was late back from dry dock after its annual service. From memory I think that it was eventually two weeks late returning back into service.
I was speaking to one of the crew in the cafeteria about this. He told me that he normally worked on the Caledonian Isles ferry and he had been redeployed onto the Islay route.
He said that everyone of the Caledonian Isles crew knew that the ferry would never be back on time as the Caledonian Isles was undergoing major work on its engine.
Sadly the Calmac bosses who draw up the timetable for their ferries to go to dry dock for their annual service over promise and under deliver. It happens every winter timetable period but they never seem to learn by their mistakes.
