IMO …. Success of England team is because of FOREIGN players

If you are old enough you will know what I talking about here ……
We have ALWAYS had fhe players in this country to win every tournament since 1966.
But we never had the team.
(Something I have always said - and Ian Wright has also said the same).
Why !?!?! - because we were always frightened of the opposition.
The media alway put other countries players on a pedestal - they constantly bigged them up.
Consequently we always played safe and defensive.
Players of flair were rarely seen in an England shirt.
Currie - the best player I ever saw live.
    Worthington
    Hudson
    Rodney Marsh
    Hoddle
    Bowles
    ……. etc etc etc
I’m sure people on here will be able to add to this list.

But then the foreign invasion started - and the better players from all over the world were attracted to the Premier because of the money.
Many pundits were dead against these players coming into the country because as they said they were taking up playing positions that English players should have.

IMO - the arrival of foreign players is the best thing that happened to English football.
We not only learnt from these players - we realised that we could compete one to one with these players …….. and some of our lads were even better.
    Result ………. NO FEAR.

I wouldn't go as far as to say we've always had the players Nudge .

I've seen Geoff Thomas and Carlton Palmer play for England along with Luther Blisset and Steve Foster ffs .

We've a better culture around the England set up than we previously had .

The talent available to England managers is completely out of their hands and you work with what you have .

Gareth is blessed with the young talent he has but he still has to manage that .

It's as good as I've ever seen within the England set up .

I've criticised Gareth and had my doubts but feckin hell you can't knock this moment in time .

" Currie - the best player I ever saw live. "

Yes I also liked David Currie, but he wasn't that good!!.
This isn't called a golden generation of England players yet because a lot of them are still just kids, and that can only get better in the years to come as they hopefully continue to improve.
Just when I think Ive had enough of Gareth Southgate and want him out, he and the team go on a run like they are on now and it makes me want to shut up again lol.
