Thread: Now please sack Southgate.

  1. #11
Southgate had the opportunity to win this tournament.

Sadly he lacks the cojones to take the game by the scruff of it's neck.

Penalties are part and parcel of tournament football, Southgate has neither the nous or the nerve to stand up to the pressure.

He is a thoroughly decent man of that I have no doubt, but in tournament football a team needs a manager with a mean streak and a pair of balls; sadly Gareth has neither.

True Sinkov , but Tripps was marking the near post header for their equaliser in this instance.

The best team won on the night being honest , I think Gareth was wrong with the whole thing his luck simply ran out, to invite the Italians in to have the ball and stick 10 men behind it for 70 mins of normal time was ludicrous, Mancini did what great coaches do looked at the problems changed it and we sank further back to strengthen his onslaught.

Imo anyway Gareth has stuck with players when he should have changed things , loyalty is one thing ignorance another , I like Kane I think he’s a class act but I’m unsure what Calvert Lewin had to do to get a run out , after about 30 mins Kane offered no threat to them at all ( I accept tactically our shape and inability to keep
The ball didn’t help his game ) .

Maybe Southgate will look at this and realise you can’t leave Kane running into the ground and have him up there to score the goals as well as make them , we have some very good talented players but we’re scared and can’t keep the ball, all good European teams know the ball is king , we expend lots of energy chasing and hoping for a knock down off Kane where they are patient and prepared to probe and have several touches each to work the openings.

Overall as I said above we did Ok , but when push came to shove and we needed the ability to change / alter things around the manager didn’t / couldn’t change to even get us back in the game ( we were drawing but there was only one winner ).

It’s a shame because we started with such promise , but reverted back to hit and hope .

Your eloquence may be suspect Alf, however your sentiments are spot on. Southgate did not have the bravery to take the game away from the Italians and Sterling went missing in action.

Cowardice is a strong word to use in a sporting context, but like you, I saw no lions out there last night.

"True Sinkov , but Tripps was marking the near post header for their equaliser in this instance."

Exactly my point Army, why was a short-arse like Tripps competing for headers at a corner ? I'm not being wise after the event, the aerial shot before the corner showed Kane taking up position to defend a near post corner, with Pickford all on his lonesome on the line, no one on either post. As a Burnley fan it stuck out like a sore thumb to me, I've seen us defend hundreds of corners, that's not how Dyche does it, and we don't concede many from corners, and certainly not bundled in from short range ones, we just have too many bodies in the way.

As soon as it hit the back of the net I ran it back and said to Mrs S. "Look at that, no one on the posts, what do you expect ?" I was watching on ITV, and although I was expecting them to, not one of the pundits commented on this aspect of it. I wonder if any of the BBC muppets did, or is it just me ?

No Lineker and Co were too busy metaphorically shoving their tongues up Southgate's arse sinkov.

Not surprised at that, the self-righteous Lineker and Co are why I was watching on ITV.

On reflection the match went as to the from book.We have a serial bottler as a manager and Italy have a serial winner so it was not surprising that Southgate bottled it big time and Mancini won.
No doubt about it Italy were there for the taking in the first half and Southgate did not use that to his advantage.Italy had never been behind in the tournament and they were rattled. As for the penalty list that was just ridiculous. He has obviously learnt nothing from his previous mistakes.

He doesn't beat players simply runs into them most of the time-the Italians had him worked out.
Not sure if it was at the Turf last season when Dyche told him he would be a "world beater" if he stopped rolling around on the floor lol.

Wirighty loves him though for obvious reasons. but dont know if you caught the classic from Roy keane after the Denmark game?
IW was orgasming over him once again when Keane churps up "Wrighty, are you Sterlings new agent? Wright why? Keane-well all you keep talking about about all the time is Sterling
