"These early toothpaste tubes were made of tin and lead, and remained basically the same until a metal shortage during World War II led to mixed plastic and metal tubes. By the 1950s, manufacturers were making plastic tubes for suntan lotion, but this type of polyethylene tube reacted with toothpaste ingredients."

You brushed your teeth, then chewed on the tube to save you going to the dentist for fillings.

Good old lead. Get it doon ye.

Dinna think it went that far back.
Maybe they got rid of the lead though.
I definitely remember metal toothpaste tubes in the 60's and 70's

I also remember jumping off air raid shelter roofs, shattering the asbestos corrugated roofing we used to line up for breaking.

    Happy days.

...breathing in Ferodo brake dust as I assisted the auld man with brake maintenance, and when changing pads on a series of cars before new tech rendered it too hard, and breathing in hunners of white lime as I filled cement mixers on windy days on building sites.

No wonder I'm the swack, lithe, fine-tuned athlete that is typing this.

If I wisnae playing on the railway line the ither side o' Skene Square, then I could probably be found plootering doon a brander or exploring tunnels that reached to the harbour.

As far as I remember, surviving the summer holidays still had a fair success rate.

Edit: Brander plootering seemed to render you immune to most diseases that life could throw at you thereafter.

It's like the script from an episode of Old Country by Jack Hargreaves in these last few posts
