Bit off the fairway with Monifieth - my home club is Inverness.
The problem with new handicap system is that new members to a golf club can take a long time to reach their true handicap. In the meantime as their handicap is reducing they can clean up winning competitions.
The problem with the old handicap system is that a golfer having one excellent round had their handicap slaughtered and they were stuck with that handicap for the rest of that year. At end of every golfing year every golfer’s handicap apart from Category 1 golfers had their handicap increased by 2 shots.
