Good game, enjoyed it. Not a lot in it at all - we’d be kicking ourselves in a competitive game with their goals coming from Slocombe and Cameron cock ups and Wootton missing two sitters, but get that stuff out the way in pre-season.

This is true, but it’s also nowhere near as simple as that.

If all you’re chasing is the playoffs then Wootton is your man. If you fancy a tilt at the title then I’m not so sure.

When was the last time he scored in an away game? Missing sitters in those tight games against the poorer teams is definitely not what you want.

    Thoughts:

As other said some players look a little low on fitness. Derby looked decent, (against us) ,tho there seemed to be a lot of youngsters in their team and they will surely struggle at Championship level. We seemed very reluctant to pass the ball forward in the 1st half and our left wing back, (Taylor?) seemed equally reluctant to cross it. 2nd half better and had we taken our chances the match would prob have ended up in a draw.

    Conclusion:

It tells us absolutely nowt. Decent crowd tho........

It’s all a balance innit. Could we find someone more clinical than Wootton? Yes, probably quite easily. Could we find someone more clinical than Wootton who also improves us as a team? Much more difficult. They might even score less than he does, because he’s so important to the way we play and create chances. I think Rodrigues and Roberts benefit massively from having him in the team.

overall a good workout, but I hope we don't keep passing backwards, and taking an extra touch instead of crossing the ball

Would need to see the Wootton chances again. But having seen them live I would suggest the first one, he was stretching and second one was good defending. Wootton did look slightly off it in the first half, but got better. I’m very confident he’ll score 20 plus next season.

There’s some scary comments on this board. Having watched today, I’m quietly confident we’ll have a good season.

Derby start their season next Saturday, so naturally ahead of us in terms of fitness. But, I actually thought we did quite well.

Looks like Gettsett and Gow have gone and only Hondermarck remains.
