We all know this is going to descend into a multi-paged squabble about the same old thing. Pedro has only been back a couple of days and already the tone of the board has changed for the worse.

Let me clarify the timing of this post.
Yes it is an old topic but it was bought into the category of current news when laddo in the last few weeks announced he thought Ardley was rubbish.
As I was banned then I was unable to challenge his post and new stance on the ex manager.
So for clarity the subject matter was raised in the last 3 weeks I'm just responding to that post.
Out of interest QP when did you change your mind about Ardley I see you posted that you did.?

    I will bite me duck.

It's not a question of changing the mind from my prespective its a question of backing the manager and giving them the benefit of the doubt. There was always a doubt but I stopped backing him last season around November. By that point I thought I had given him the benefit of the doubt for long enough and like an errant employee who you think has potential but refuses to change their ways eventually you have enough. The warning signs were there from day one, and has been mentioned more times than I care to remember, he often did just enough to keep people having a little confidence in him. Me included.

I don't think he's that bad a manager for this league but at the right club, Notts were not the right club for him. When he got further up with Wimbledon he struggled as tactically I think he's pretty basic but this level can get results but only in underdog teams or teams not expected to go out and play well and win by 2 or 3. We needed a fighter in the relegation season which wasn't him and then a manager who can deal with being at the biggest club in the league and expected to win it or be there abouts, also not really him.

Will do better with Solihull as much better fit for him.

Wimbledon soon picked up after he left and they got a proper manager in. Yes Notts were a mess that season, but Ardley signed 7 players in January that should have complimented an already competitive and expensively assembled squad. He had Hemmings and Dennis at his disposal...there was no way we should have gone down.
That squad was in no way competitive. The fact we lost Yeovil at home 4-0 pretty much sums that up. After that game, Nolan tried to bringing in Karl Henry but was sacked before the transfer happened and Kewell said he didn't want him and bought in Milsom instead. Who then promptly played left back for most of the season where we really needed a stronger centre midfielder.

Ardley did see our midfield was week and bought in JOB, Rose and Doyle who strengthened up the middle but then we was playing a midfielder as left back and Tootle just went missing along side Barclay, Stubbs and Scofield who were the best we could get to come into a relegation battle in centre of defence.

What I'm trying to say is that Ardley wasn't a bad manager but when you have a chairman who was constantly interfering in football matters (and when not, bringing shame on the club by fighting on Twitter and exposing himself), a totally unbalanced squad that needed shuffling but the players you need won't come because you're at the bottom and they don't like the chairman you're on a hiding to nothing.

The season after he had a couple of days to create a squad and he did a decent job of it to be honest, had Covid not struck, it would have been interesting to see if we had gone straight up.

Ardley was jaded before he came to Notts, after his stint with Notts, that couldn't have helped either. I wish him success in the future because I think he is a genuinely nice human being and is a decent manager, I just don't think with the baggage he had with Notts, he would have been a success here and in hindsight, it was a good idea to switch to Burchnall when we did

Probably in 2007 when he hung up his footballing boots. I don't think you become a bad manager, but you can have a few things go for you that make you look better than you are. There was nothing that inspired me about him at all.

Mind you the only type of manager that would inspire me at the moment would be one that got his team to play blood and guts, full on attacking football. Notts have been playing a too conservative, over structured game for too long.

As Vinnie Jones used to say 'put the ball on the penalty spot as often as you can and get some elbows flying and see what comes of it'. I can't stand this tippy-tappy football at any level. As an Englishman, it isn't my type of game.
